I like the technical foul for "holding on the rim" by North Carolina. I can't imagine what they would've called if someone dunked like they do nowadays.

Funny looking at some of the 80's fashion choices. Also funny to see that the yell leaders attire has not evolved since the 80's.

I fully expect Barry Davis to address the team prior to this game, speaking about the game in 1980 as well as Dave Goff passing away. He was an assistant to Shelby Metcalf on the 1980 team and is currently director of student athlete development under Kennedy.

Oddly enough, Roy Williams was an assistant at UNC under Dean Smith during the 1980 season.

How about the UNC player helping our injured player off the court. Something you'd never see happen today.

Great post! In today's NCAA tournament, UNC would've gotten that foul call at the end of regulation. And yea, that hanging on the rim technical was interesting...

It was illegal to dunk up until some year. Then if I remember, they allowed it, but backboards were shattering and it would take an hour to get another in place IF they could, so they brought that hanging on the rim thing in. I guess the technology caught up so that they don't break any longer, although I think once in a blue moon they still do.

The looks slow back then, was slow. NO SHOT CLOCK, no 3 pointer of course. Guys like Eddie Sutton would almost play a stall game the whole game. It was infuriating if you weren't used to that pace and no one was. Scores in the 40's were common. That all changed really quickly with the 2 rule changes and Shelby never was able to adjust to it. The end of quality A&M basketball for a long time coupled with the Kermit Davis/Syracuse fiasco.

That wasn't an assistant, grad assistant or something I do believe.
