Northern Iowa vs the Ags check in at 22. What an ending.

Definitely a very memorable season. Besides a historical, record setting comeback vs. Northern Iowa to reach the Sweet Sixteen, we saw:

a) Alex Caruso finish as A&M's all-time leading assists and steals leader.
b) First basketball conference championship in 30 years.
c) Highest ranking ever by an A&M Men's Basketball team in the AP Poll (rose to #5 ranking on January 25th)
d) First non-conference win in program history vs. a Top-10 ranked team (at the time) - the Gonzaga win. somebody might fact check this one, going off memory, but I think that might be correct.
e) An epic beat down of LSU in the SECT, LSU held to 38 points which was the fewest points scored by a Div 1 conference team that entire season. As a bonus, LSU was so embarrassed by that game that they got cold feet playing anymore basketball and declined even considering an NIT invite.
f) Major beat down of Georgia on the road, giving them their worse margin of defeat in the 7 years that Mark Fox had been coaching the Dogs, and was the largest margin of victory in a conference road game for a Texas A&M team going back to the SWC days.
g) 28-9 record eclipsed the 27-7 record of the 2006-2007 team for the most wins in a season in program history.

Great season indeed.

There are not 21 worse collapses in sports history. I'm not even sure there are any from a pure win probability standpoint.

I also assumed from seeing the thread title that our game was #1 or close to it.

I thought we would be closer to top 5 to number 1 on the list, too. The "experts" obviously didn't take into account statistics. Their criteria was more subjective. But whatever. We are the only NCAAT bball game on the list and forever etched in history.

Like 2-19 are all Red Sox seasons/series/games

Agree that from a win-probability standpoint, UNI blowing that lead is worse than most (all?) of the other collapses mentioned. But using their criteria:
quote:
which flameouts were the most excruciating, taking into account the magnitude of the event, the size of the blown lead and the historical significance of the meltdown

I can see how our game moves down the list.

Rangers at number 4. Can't argue though.

Watching the UNI coach and players talking to the media after the game was exceptionally brutal, even for the average losing team NCAAT post presser. You can tell the ending of that game is going to haunt those guys the rest of their lives.

i don't think anyone questions that it was a heartbreaking loss for UNI

Besides the UNI game, if I asked what were the biggest A&M comebacks that posters remember, where as a fan you were definitely at a 'this is over, no chance we are coming back, I'm turning the channel off' point and then somehow surprisingly we won the game, what are the games that immediately come to mind?

To me, that 1998 Big 12 Championship game vs. Kansas State is a definite. Down 27-12 in the 4th quarter, somehow win the dang thing.

Ole Miss 2012. 3rd and 19 from our 3 yd line down 10.

The Chick-Fil-A Bowl is the only thing close since I've been an Aggie. (I didn't grow up an Aggie fan so I can't speak to much prior to about 2002)

This was an epic comeback, but being in the stadium I don't think I really felt like it was over at any point. There were SEVERAL points that it was like "if we don't do X, it's over" but we kept doing them.

The CFA Bowl and the UNI game I thought we were toast.

You had more confidence than I did.

From 2Q on, the Punt-Fumble-Fumble-Interception combo, then a sack back to the 1 yd line had me hopeless

Was the Arizona win a big comeback?

It was a comeback, but certainly not a shocking one.

Can anyone claim to be in attendance for 3 or more from the ESPN list?

1989 baseball doubleheader against the sips. Both games.

And yes, this season made me love basketball again

Nah just the first 2 for me. Just seeing if there's anyone out there that can claim 3 or more since it's certainly feasible. I'd assume an Oilers fan or someone local to DFW that just happened to go to the MichSt/Baylor Cotton Bowl.

Rockets against Spurs. Tracy McGrady 13 points in 35 seconds.
