You'd put Corprew at the three and Eubanks at the 2?

Second question I have is are we all cool rolling into the season with what we have at this point, or are we considering Vila a must? I think of him as a nice to have bonus.

I had DC at the 2, but everyone lists him as a SF. Like has been stated many times, 1-5 position designations aren't important in this offense.

Eubanks, I don't know what he is at this point. Don't seem him playing down low much, so I have him at SG.

I wouldn't expect him to get a ton of minutes, so I don't consider him a must for 2016. Seems more a luxury that could provide some shooting off the bench as a zone buster

Roster looks finished at this point, unless we find a rebounder from JUCO/grad transfer. Don't really have any more minutes at the 1-3 spot.

You're right. I usually think of the two as the secondary ball-handler but that hasn't always been the case in our offense. Generally, Eubanks seems more like a catch and shoot type of player and Corprew is more of a take it strong to the rim guy

Gilder, Trocha and Davis need to be playing closer to 30 minutes imo. Not sure Davis can handle it but if he can he needs as many minutes as possible.

Gilder will play over 30 min except in blowouts.

1. He is in better shape than anyone on the team
2. He will be moving into a vocal leadership role on the court

In reality we are going to have an 8 or 9 man rotation not a 10 or 11.

Hard to say, but it will shake out like it always does. We had an 11 man rotation last year in our exhibition games and an 8 man rotation in conference play.

It is hard to say. I think we roll with a 10 man rotation. Pretty much guaranteed we will play the four posts each game. The only thing I could potentially see happening is whoever is the worst out of Caldwell, Corprew, and Eubanks might sit to provide additional minutes for the other.

Ags had a 9 man rotation in conference play and postseason this yr. If Thomas had not transferred it would probably have been ten.

Seems to me we need another post player to eat minutes, fouls, and play some defense and I'm not talking about Vila who looks like a weak version of DJ Hogg to me at this point . If Vila signs he won't be a factor this yr imo. If Hogg bulks up and works a bit on his post game that will help but for some depth I really believe we need another big guy. We will have to count on an unproven freshman in Williams if the roster doesn't get any other additions. Williams might very well be ready but another serviceable big would make me considerably more confident they can hold up in a physical game. We were pretty lucky on the injury front this yr too.

All I know is that that looks like Final 4 potential in 2 years unless the wheels fall off somehow.

Yep. First time in school history that I'm aware of in which we've gone two consecutive seasons only signing four star high school recruits.

Probably 9 man rotation, will just depend on who steps up from you young guys and transfer.

PG - Caldwell, Hampton - hopefully Caldwell is a stud and his minutes increase as the season goes on

Guards - Gilder for sure

Hogg, Eubanks, and Corprew - need 2 of these 3 to play a decent amount .

Bigs - Obviously Trocha and Davis, but Williams and Miller for rest and extra fouls.

My main concern is replacing the second guard/small forward spot. We really need Hogg to step up in his second year and take the starting spot. Then hope Eubanks or Corprew can play the 6th man role to rest Gilder and Hogg.

Playing 9 guys depends on 3 highly rated freshman stepping up quick again like this last season, in addition to guys like Hogg improving. Hopefully the young guys get a lot of PT early so they can develop and adjust to the college game heading into SEC play.

This is probably technically true because we were always throwing in a random three star or something. I mean if Vila commits suddenly we'll have a "non four star."

But there was a time where we looked like we were heading to an elite talent level and because of coaching changes and transfers we never got there. I remember when Reese was going to be the final piece to the puzzle for world domination.

But we certainly look like were loaded up now, hopefully we can keep everyone rowing the same direction.

Since Vila isn't even listed in the American recruiting websites, I'm going to consider him a 4 star based on this site: http://newbasketballgeneration.com/european-1998-ranking/

When was it looking like we were heading to an elite level? I was in school until 2010 and didn't follow recruiting at all. It was a simpler time, getting a program at the first game to figure out who the new players are.

Bob, not going to spend the time charting it, but I am guessing we've never had such a run on 'Top-100' rated talent in program history as we have had the last couple of recruiting cycles, in terms of just sheer numbers.

Next season's roster, out of the predicted 11 scholarship guys...seven will have been rated in ESPN-100 in their high school class. Of the other four guys not rated, two are international (Trocha and Vila). And then there is Tavario Miller and Hampton.

Obviously some highly rated guys pan out and some do not. Hibbert, Alexander, Branch, Reese, Elijah Thomas, Alex Robinson...all highly rated 4-star guys who didn't pan out particularly well for A&M. Then there is always a 3-star guy like Middleton who was underrated. But the percentages should generally favor that given a heavy volume of 4/5-star talent coming in, that you are bound to get some hits (like an Elston, Caruso, House, Trocha, Gilder, Davis, and Hogg, etc.).

I'm not sure we've ever had a stronger roster as far as future potential is concerned. High level talent at every single position, assuming nobody goes pro or leaves. Just looking at the list of names and knowing what they're capable of, both 2017 and 2018 are potential final four seasons if we're somehow able to keep them on campus.

As it stands now, I think Hogg and Davis are the most likely to leave after this season, but they still both have limiting factors in terms of the NBA draft. Davis needs to become a more explosive, above the rim player to be drafted as a center, and Hogg needs to put in some serious work in the weight room and on defense. These limitations could potentially keep both of them here for four years, though three is more likely.

The three freshmen might step onto the floor as the three most athletic players on the team. Corprew and Caldwell both look like they have more explosiveness than everyone currently on the team except for maybe Gilder, and all Williams just catches alley-oops and blocks shots all day.

The only team I can think of that even comes close to rivaling this one in terms of future potential is the team Turgeon inherited with Carter as a Jr, Sloan, Davis, Roland, and Elonu as Sophomores, and Jordan, Holmes, and Walkup as Freshmen. Even then you have to remove Jordan from the list because he was always going to be one and done.

The other thing worth pointing out is the we have a lot of players that can knock down a three consistently. Four of our five projected starters shot 33% or better last season from three and all four of them were willing shooters (as opposed to guys like Collins and Caruso who shot good percentages but were hesitant to shoot). Our backups at both the two and three positions can also knock down threes and are willing shooters. Caldwell and Williams MAY be good three point shooters in college but there isn't enough data out there to know one was or another. Add Vila to the list and we'll be downright dangerous.

Yeah, and we're recruiting at a higher level now than we were, I'm just saying that sometimes it looks like all the pieces are coming together and then they don't. This is why I'm all about the one-and-done and graduate transfers. In college basketball, you can really only worry about the next season because you never know what can happen after that.

The time I'm really talking about is in 2008 we signed Loubeau and Harris, both four star prospects.

Then in 2009 we signed Middleton and Hibbert and added Ray Turner. (Jeremy Adams would be added later) Middleton wasn't top 100, but he was 140 on the Rivals rankings so pretty close.

Then in 2010 we signed Keith Davis, Tobi Oyedeji, Daniel Alexander and Kourtney Roberson. No need to go into what happened with Oyedeji, that's a tragedy obviously. And Keith Davis was a four star on Scout before he went to prep school the year before, and Kourtney Roberson was in the ESPN 100 but went to prep school the next year so he wasn't when he actually got to A&M. And Daniel Alexander was a four star on ESPN and ranked #94 on the ESPN 100.

On top of that, we already had Jamal Branch committed since he was like six years old and he was a four star nationally ranked guy and Jordan Green was ranked 107 by Rivals. (ESPN doesn't rank past #100) And everyone expected us to land J-Mychal Reese in 2012 who was going to be the greatest basketball player in the history of Brazos Valley.

So over that stretch everyone but Ray Turner and Jeremy Adams were either in or very close to being in the "top 100." But coaching changes, injuries, and various other cosmic forces kept that group from all being on the court together.

My point is simply don't wait for the future in college basketball.
