...instead, they are patient but they run their base offense instead of constipating themselves.

Then they take it to the hole when the opportunity is there.

Two points (another possession difference) > chewing up 20 seconds.

This is how basketball games are won.

they were already up 10 with 3 minutes left, nothing wrong with chewing up clock. we were up 10 with tons of time left

We tried to do the same. The difference is that Kansas has better players. It's amazing how that works, eh?

To me the most beautiful part of watching Kansas is their passing. They know where everybody is and how to get it to the open man.

Yes, nothing wrong with chewing clock as long as you don't get out of your game while doing so.

Too many times I've seen too many teams milk clock, get out of their offense and then have to throw up an air ball when the shot clock hits zero.

If I have 20 seconds left on the shot clock but I see a chance to take it to the hole for a 80-90% chance at points, I stop playing keep-away right then and there.

...and if we don't have the players to pull this off, then we don't milk the clock plain and simple.

We stay in our base offense.

We played that way for the last few weeks of the season. The game plan was to minimize the number of possessions. And it worked. We just didn't make the plays down the stretch of the UCLA game to finish.

AgDotCom: Are you seriously using today's KU game as a model of how to play when up with a big lead?

My topic post says "with 3 minutes left". I'll assume you didn't see that.

Dude, the last 3 minutes UNC was running a fire drill defense and simply moving the ball meant the 3rd-4th guy to touch it was going to be wide open under the basket. It wasnt great offense, it was desperate defense and KU didn't turn the ball over which was the only way UNC was going to get back in the game at that point.

They were def. trying to milk the clock the last three min. I don't know what game you were watching.

Ok, well they had about a 25 point lead at one point. If you want to pick basically the 3 minute segment out of the last 17 where they protected it well, so be it. In any event, this game was an example of how NOT to play when up with a huge lead. It was almost one of the biggest comebacks in tourney play of all time! The opposite of what you are getting at.

With due respect this has nothing to do with the "opposite of what I'm getting at".

The topic refers to the final three minutes so that eliminates everything before it including KU's first 37 minutes, KU's previous game, KU's 1988 championship, the day you and I were born, and the day the Earth cooled.

The post has everything to do with the contrast drawn between teams who want to go into the "prevent offense" in the final 3 minutes of a game and those who don't.

I fully agree with your points and your observations however they are not relevant to the title of this post.

KU was perfect the last 3 minutes of the game. However, the end product (the perfect last three minutes) had less to do with KU and more to do with the way UNC was doubling the ball at midcourt and scrambling from there. It was not an organized press, so the basket was open many times. You must credit KU of course for not turning the ball over and finding the open man under the basket.

Sure AgDotcom...

The point is they almost choked the whole freaking gigantic lead. Yet you point to the few minutes where they got a run of their own.

Big deal. They did a piss poor job the rest of the second half protecting a lead. The fact they finally got a run of their own, doesn't show how to defend a lead well.

Kansas also let UNC cut a 28 point lead to 4 by rushing and shooting bad shots.
