his argument is that they got hosed b/c we were allowed to play physical and the mauling gave the Ags an unfair advantage. His argument is that Barnes has complained that we should be required to play w/ more finess and that would make the game more fair.

So who gets hosed? If the game is called tight, are we getting hosed? If the game is allowed to be physical, does that mean our opponents are getting hosed?

Seems kinda funny to hear them complaining that we were too physical. Their players received 2 techs.

I thought the last game was called very well. I think the only advantage that gave A&M was that Augustine didn't get his points at the line because the refs didnt bail him out when he drove the lane out of control.

If the game is called tight in Austin I think it will give us problems. Our big guys will get in foul trouble and their gaurds will knock down free throws.

If he thinks that way, what did he say about the tu games under TKC? We were much more physical.

Funny,

What I remember from the 1st game is the sips missing many open shots from outside in the 1st 10 minutes and getting very lucky with second chances in the second 10 minutes to even stay in the game.

Texas has started playing better defense and I think Barnes is a good coach and will focus on making sure his guys defense will be better than last time. They will not be as cold as last time as well and if we get a 1 point win I will be happy.

We don't play defense with as much contact as we did last year so if Barnes is trying to get that out there I would be surprised. Like the abobe poster stated; both teams were pretty even in there fouling, etc.

Isn't this what has happened the past two years?

The game is allowed to be more physical in College Station, then the refs tighten up in Austin.

As it should be. I had not problem with the refs in the first game.

Not sure that is right.

At home last year both Jones and Kirk were in foul trouble and did not play that much.

If you remember Carter and Davis played great to counter those 2 on the bench to help us still blow them out. The sips got the calls and we still kicked tail. That's what makes me think; even if they get the calls on Monday we are good enough to overcome them and still win.

Both games were called very tight last year.

I do remember the grab by Abrams of Law that should have been an intentional foul that was not called in Austin. Last night in the Tech game the same thing happened and it was called correctly right away.

which is how it should be. guys who just haphazardly crash into the lane and throw up circus shots should not get the benefit of a tight call. the fould should be absolutely blatant to be called when a guy is out of control on a drive.

Maybe I am wrong, but a tight game means more fouls, and that means players #6-10 will see more PT.

If that happens, I like our chances as we have depth.

This has been the same Longhorn excuse for the last 4 years. This years game was actually called in their favor as Damian James should have had 5 more fouls and Dex Pitman was mauling people. Luckily we are built to handle that kind of game.

Don't you just hate it when the refs screw your team and you end up losing by seventeen points?

That would be a Longhorn Sip for you.

All things equal, we match up good against tu.

Unfortunately, there's a few reasons why they are so good at home..ability, confidense and the Bible clause...only at the Frank Erwin Center

if they call breathing hard on Augustine and Abrams against us...we are screwed...thought the game at Reed was well officiated, and not just because the Ags won...I hope Steve Welmar is one of the refs in Austin...he does a good job and the game is under control...funny how it seems that all the bad calls come from one ref in a particular game...guess he is always out of position, or sometimes blows the whistle too early anticipating what he thinks will happen, and it doesn't. Hope Hightower is not in Austin!!

As long as the game is called the same at both ends of the floor, I say it is fair. I think we (Ags) have an advantage if the game is called loosely because of our strength inside. The tighter the game is called the more I think the advantage slides towards the horns because of their guard play, and the foul trouble we may get into. If the game is called like the early part of the tech game, we will have a very very difficult if not impossible time winning.

Yeah, obviously the difference in this game wasn't fouls. We won by 17 points...

tightly called games favor the horns because we still suck at freethrows.

You see, Texas never loses a game fair and square. It's always a conspiracy of some sort. Will we never learn?

correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the refs in CS are pretty whistle happy actually

We are going to have to score some points to win this game. They're not going to let us play any defense, just like in that officiating farce we got over there last year. Don't expect any better on the offensive end, as you're going to see more flops than at a Manu Ginobli basketball clinic that all get an offensive foul call. Rick Barnes will preach flopping to his guys in preparation for that game.

MT needs to take a technical early if it's obvious that we're getting the typical FECes screw job.

Well you can expect to see a lot of that bull**** on Monday, unfortunately. Anyone that breathes on Augustin or Abrams is going to get a foul called on them, just like with _urant last year.

I'm fine with the refs calling the game either way as long as they are CONSISTENT!! If you're going to call ticky tack fouls, fine, but call them on both ends. When it gets out of hand is when one team gets called for hand checks 40' from the basket while the other team absolutely destroys anybody in the paint with no calls.

This is the key to good officiating. Call the game however you want, but be consistent and allow the players to adjust their style of play one way or the other. When the officiating standard changes the whole game, one team will always be at a disadvantage. Since we are a big team that is strong in the paint, that usually tends to be us.

On a side note, I'm glad that the refs are finally catching on to Augistine's strategy of drive and pray. If you truly get hacked when going to the rack, by all means you should get the call. However, when you're just going full speed towards the basketball, out of control and flying all over the place, you shouldn't be rewarded with a call when it was your own momentum that caused you to go to the floor.
