I honestly don't understand how this isn't basically a deconstructed cheeseburger, but what do I know.

Grilled ground beef, onions, and cheese served with lettuce, tomato, and condiments on a bun sure as hell sounds like a cheeseburger to me.

Burger Bodega in Houston has one on their menu, and while it has all of the ingredients of their standard burger, there is something that happens in the chopping that makes it better than a standard burger.

You get more browning of the meat with the chopped up ground beef.

Basically, but think of it as using ground beef for a Philly cheesesteak with the griddled onions, and you're close to the chopped cheese. And it's pretty tasty.

Sorry, but the reactions to this sandwich from some offended people are hilarious to me.

I know I made this sandwich myself 30 years ago when I was in college and learning to cook, but it was more of a sauceless sloppy joe with cheese added.

I think it is amusing they think they 'invented' something.

I literally made this while I was in college teaching myself how to cook. I also watched a girl make this by accident in the Commons cafeteria in the '90s. She took a hamburger patty, put it on the griddle, cooked one side, put cheese on the cooked side, flipped it over, realized too late she was cooking the cheese on the griddle, broke up the burger and cheese, and put it onto a bun. All she needed to make it a 'chopped cheese' was to add some sauteed onions.

Chopped cheese is one of my favorite sandwiches. Best one I've had is at Munchies in New Haven, CT
