Todd Fontenot, the crawfish extension agent with the LSU AgCenter, said the historic snowstorm and freezing weather will only have a short-term impact on mudbugs this year.
"You know, it's a short-term delay in the old activities, but with some good warming weather come out of this, we find it's gonna get back to where it was pretty quickly again," he said.
Fontenot explained that crawfish, being cold-blooded crustaceans, are sitting around, conserving energy to survive.

My supplier is saying it's just a hiccup, going to be a historically good year. Looking like Super Bowl crawfish...
The farms are loaded with crawfish, unlike last year, but the cold weather sent them into the mud and not going to feed, which means not getting caught and sent to get eaten. It's going to be a very good season, it just got put on hold due to the cold weather. Anyone who does any real volume wont know until thursday probably at the earliest if they will have and a meaningful supply of bugs this weekend. Should be back in good order by next week though for sure.WES2006AG said:
Boil House on 11th has been open a few times already this year so I assume there are some crawfish out there.
