I grabbed some of this the other day for some enchiladas.

Anyone ever use Hatch products? They're pretty good from what I used. Any one use any of their other stuff?

It's good to know that Hatch chilis are gluten free. It was questionable.

Unpopular opinion alert:

I think Hatch chiles are fine but are one of the more overrated things going and owe their popularity to the Hatch Chamber of Commerce.

Hatch is definitely overrated. The fad reminds me of the chipotle fad from about 10 years ago when there was chipotle everything, except chipotle peppers are much better.

You mean Jalapenos.

Spicy Hatch chiles are great, they have really good flavor, rich texture and a decent amount of heat. The Hatch has a much different flavor profile from its cousin the serrano (which I love for its sharp and spicy notes) it is still similar in its flavor profile instead of the bitterness and overly peppery flavors of a green bell pepper or a habanero.

I do? I don't ever remember a "jalapeno" fad.

If you didn't know chipotle is a smoked jalapeno. There is no chipotle pepper.

I know what a chipotle is. Why you're feeling the need to try to correct me on this is odd.

you wrote "chipolte peppers are much better" I was just pointing out that the pepper part is actually a jalapeno.

This might be the most nit picky "well actually" post I've seen on this board.

I've been eating green Chiles since I was a kid. Never heard of a chipotle until I was at A&M. 40+ years is a hell of a fad

Hatch Chiles are far more versatile than a Chipolte. There are many ways you can define better but most definitions would favor Big Jim

It's 100% turned into a fad. 40 years ago, there wasn't green chili beer and green chili Irish cheddar and green chili ice cream. Grocery stores weren't roasting green chiles in the parking lot all over the country.

Jalapenos were fine until our university got ahold of them. No heat anymore. Switched to serranos.

It happens once a year for a couple of weeks because that's when they are available. Is there a marketing ploy aspect - sure - but I would rather hatch things than pumpkin spice

Welp, just made tomatilla salsa verde for use on homemade enchiladas tomorrow evening. 1 jalapeno instead of 2 serranos because I am making for the masses. Bought jalapeno in NOLA. Holee Smokes... it came out hot!. Maybe the TAM2 variant hasn't made its way east!

If you try, you can probably find gluten-free water to drink with your meal, too.

When I was younger, I had kinfolks who raised chile's on a farm just outside of Hatch.
