Traveling to the in-laws this week and I want to carry my Meater thermometer with me. I don't plan to check bags so it would be carry-on.

I imagine that people have traveled with them if not to use but bringing as a gift or whatnot.

In theory they could say it could be used as weapon, but so could a pair of eye glasses that have a pointed end on the ear piece.

Iffy. And regulations are grey areas in my experience and subjective to who is manning the check stations at the time.

I would just mail it ahead if possible. You can call and ask as well I suppose but describing a long thin pointed metal instrument probably won't get you far if the person is not familiar with it.

I wouldn't risk it but this says you might be ok.

While going through security in Durango yesterday (precheck), they had me remove a light jacket with two nylon zippers that I have never been asked to remove over the last 10 years. He was worried about the metal (only on the closure) setting off the detector. They can make whatever nonsensical judgement they want. Mail it.
