Those of y'all that have recommended using a stand mixer to pull apart a pork butt, what attachment do y'all recommend?

Dough hook? Paddle?

I do not use a mixer for smoked butts, we like the more natural chunks from hand pulling, and I can pull out any fat and anything else that we do not like. I do use a hand mixer for any pork and chicken cooked in the instant pot.

Our hand mixer has the normal attachments and a set of mini dough hooks. The old style attachments makes for perfect taco meat out of port and chicken. The dough hooks leave some chunks, but they are not "natural" looking if that makes sense.

If your butt is cooked to temp I think the dough hook is where I would start and move up to the paddle and then the whisk to go finer. If you get a box of nitrite gloves and practice a little you can knock out a butt in 10 mins and your guest love to watch because you can hand them good bits as you are pulling.

Good luck

Dough hook would work best.

Personally I just use two larger forks to pull the meat apart. Has worked well for me.

I use bear claws so I'd not have to clean any of the mixer. They are wayyyyyy better than two forks.

So you're a supporter of the 2nd Amendment... nice.

Thanks for the feedback. Saw a few people suggest it, wondered if it was magical. Usually just use my hands with gloves.

My wife did it once (I wasn't there and usually hand pull myself) and the consistency was not good.

Dough hook, with a little finishing up by hand after. Works just fine for me.

Used 2 forks then received bear claws as a gift. Bear claws win!

We use the paddle on the stand mixer and it does a good job of shredding - I wouldn't necessarily call it pulled pork, but it is quick and gives a good consistency for sandwiches. Probably the best thing about it is we get the bark spread through out the meat so my boys can't just take the bark. I typically cook 2 to 4 butts at a time. We will shred with the stand mixer, sauce with my homemade think bbq sauce using the meat drippings and water pan and then vacuum seal to have quick great meals for the future.
