Good Morning All,

It seems that I can't get enough good quality dill pickles. I've loved them ever since I was a kid and was curious as to what many on here think is the best store bought pickles.

I like the ones best that pack a little heat and are "crispy." An example of one of my favorites are the Best Maid brand whole baby dills. I'm also particularly fond of Vlasic Polish Dill Spears and just about any kosher dills.

Aside from their excellent taste, the juice (which I love) also have some very good minerals such as magnesium and vitamin K. The juice is also good for fighting dehydration.

Anyway, just I thought I'd put this question out there because I've found this forum a good place for discussion on any topic. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

Thank you Proc! I've never heard of them but I will for sure check them out right away. Once again, thank you!

ETA: These look to be right up my alley. I'm going to OD on pickles, it appears.

Are there stores that offer these off the shelf rather than having to order online? Of course, I could always go through Amazon and/or perhaps Whole Foods Market. Much appreciated Mookie!

You know, I haven't seen Claussen pickles in what seems to be forever. I do recall that I really liked them. I'll have to grab a jar of them as well. I'll be pickled tink.. I mean tickled pink.

I bought some Mt. Olive pickles for the first time ever and you are spot on. The pickles were great, and I also keep the pickle juice to take a sip of now and then. Some will think I'm weird but I love the taste of pickle juice, and you are correct - some of the best pickle juice around.

ETA: I bought two gallons of Best Maid pickle juice over the summer and it disappeared rather quickly. Pickle juice is great for dehydration and like I said I love it for the taste alone.

Yes, the dill spears are great. We also like the bread and butter pickles.

ETA: The dill pickles also pack a little heat.

Claussen pickle quality with Mt. Olive flavoring would dominate.

None of them are as good as mine.

We like Best Maid based in Ft. Worth. I've seen Grillos at Costco so will try. Costco also carries Famous Dave's Sweet N Spicy pickles. Excellent!

Klein Brothers Hot Garlic Dill Pickles are the best pickles I've ever had by a long shot. And I've tried just about all of them. They ain't cheap (run about $9/jar). But well worth it. If you like a spicy, crisp pickle, you won't find one better.

Claussen halves are my favorite store vinegar styles. I prefer the bubbies spicy for the natural fermented style. I keep both. Some of the small batch fermented ones at Whole Foods and sprouts can be hit and miss and are usually too expensive since I plow through them.

These really are the best I have found outside of homemade. Better packaging as well.

If only Grillo's packaging had a lid that actually closes. That thing practically just sits on top of the open container

Fickle Pickles

In Boerne, Gruene and Austin and online.

A number of years ago Neiman Marcus wanted to carry them, but insisted on changing the name, which isn't gonna happen.

Make your own. It's quick, easy and you can use whatever you want to season them with, as salty as you want, sweet if you want, hot and spicy. Been making refrigerator pickles for awhile. You can substitute just about any vegetable for the cukes. Yellow squash, green squash, okra, napa cabbage, bok choy, just sweet onions , red peppers, broccoli, green tomatoes, asparagus. No hot bath canning involved. They will last several months in the fridge and take about 30 minutes to make. If you like bloody marys a couple of three teaspoons of the juice is a nice additive

I like it when they're like that. Not hot hot, but a little spicy is perfect.

The Vlasic Polish spears are some of the best tasting I've ever had. I'm going to make a list of all the recommendations in this thread. Maybe I'll be a Food Channel critic, only specializing in dill pickles. Talk about a specialized topic.

Sometimes the most obvious choice is right before your eyes. I'm not into anything else except for maybe the cabbage. I'm going to give this recipe a try. I'll come back one day if I'm successful and who knows, I might sell them on amazon or something. Oh yeah, I'm sure there will be plenty of government red tape.

I love pickle juice as well, I will try to save the empty jar to take a swig out of every now and then but my girlfriend always throws them out. Might have to find a way to hide a jar!
