Just wanted to say thanks to those who recommended Lotus of Siam in another thread. Just finished "lunch" there, wife and I shared garlic prawns, crispy duck, northern larb, sea bass drunken noodles, and Tom Kha soup. Portions were a lot bigger than I was expecting and we brought plenty leftovers back to the hotel. I can't wait until I'm hungry again.

Was maybe the single best meal I've ever had.

Not a great photo but I was too interested in digging in to come up with anything better.

I'm not sure what other thread or if I was one who recommended it, but I have definitely recommended it on several threads here before. Glad you enjoyed it, one of my top culinary experiences, and I never go to Vegas without eating there.

Loved this place as well. I ate there a couple of times during my 3 day Vegas conference trip.

I did have bad timing though, the Uber guy took me on a 20 minute trip to the wrong location. Apparently they had shut down the original location and moved to a new location. Uber guy took off and I walked in and there was a construction crew in there. :-/

My favorite meal in Vegas is Lotus. The Nam Kao Tod is my go to appetizer.

Agree. Best restaurant in Vegas.

Is it expensive?

It's very reasonable. Unless you buy a 40 year old Riesling for your wife's birthday...

Yea - I owe this board a debt of gratitude for that recommendation.

Another vote for it. It's outstanding and it's not very expensive at all.

Definitely not expensive considering the quality of the food and service, especially by Vegas standards.

Interestingly, Lotus had one of the best wine lists in the world for years. It's been well known throughout the wine community for as longer than I've been a wine dork. I think a lot of the good bottles have been picked over during the years so there are no more very unique wines, but the newer vintages they get are still stop notch producers. Those Riesling's pare is well with that spice.

I was there in March and made a reservation. Unfortunately, I got dates mixed up and made it for the day I left. Oops. Bouchon wasn't a bad second choice, though.

Also want to note that I was curious if they had survived the pandemic - glad to see they did.

Another restaurant off the strip but pops up on best of lists is Black Sheep. The chef there just made it deep on Top Chef

Lotus is the only reason I'll go to Vegas any more. Tom Kah, garlic prawns, and soft shell crab Khao Soi with a Vouvray is my go-to there.

I'm craving it so bad now!

do people take leftovers back to a hotel? for what purpose, making your room stink?
MichaelJ

The real question is how did you refrigerate it without racking up a massive amount of mini bar charges

Hotel had both a mini bar and an empty mini fridge. It was well worth stinking the hotel fridge up

I just take their minibar crap out of the fridge and set it on top of the fridge. I try to put it back on my last day. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Never had an issue doing this.

I mean - most the hotels charge you the minute it comes off the weight sensor

I have never seen a weight sensor. I always thought it was a census by the cleaning staff. Damn, I feel poor now that I haven't stayed in a place with a weight sensor fridge.

I've stayed in cosmo once - don't remember the # of fridges

When I was in Vegas in June - the check in people made specific point to warn about moving mini bar or snack items

The one that's open.

Seriously, only one is open right now. It's been that way for 2 years now. It's a nicer venue with regards to location and interior but the old one has that charming dirty strip center feel to it.

It looks like they're going back and forth on which one is open. When I was there in October we went to Sahara, and now it is closed and Flamingo open.

Did not realize that. I'll be going in November before I head to Zion. I'll be in Vegas for a night in October but won't have time to eat there because they don't open til 5:30pm and I'm taking my son and his buddy to Cirque which starts at 7:00. So Bouchon it is...

I like Nora's Italian as well for a local spot a ways off the strip.

Lotus is a great place. Would go there all the time when I lived in Vegas.

My other go to Thai joint in Vegas was Pin Kaow.
