https://www.foodandwine.com/wine/tk-best-boxed-wines-serve-crowdI don't live alone, but it's similar because the wife and I together don't put much of a dent into a regular bottle of wine.
What we do is keep a bunch of the 4 packs of tiny 187 ml bottles around. They're mostly used for cooking but we drink them too. The price per unit volume is probably terrible compared to regular bottles or boxes, but there's something psychological about throwing out the remains of a bottle that's gone bad that's worth the ~$5 per pack.
It's kind of like how I won't flinch at buying some overpriced things but paying $3 to rent a movie when I already have Amazon prime bugs me. It is not rational!
I'm sure the boxes do last longer, but if they're 3L or more compared to a 750ml regular bottle, it seems like you break even on the waste issue unless it's a lot longer. The bottled wine might keep longer if you refrigerate it after opening and then let what you pour come to room temp.
All this horrifies real wine aficionados I'm sure.
