TexAgs,

My wife and I are native Texans living in Washington, but we'll be in DFW for a wedding next weekend. Any fun or can't miss restaurant recommendations?

We're not too big on Thai, Indian, etc. But we're just looking for a place to have a unique, fun experience with good ambiance and good, food for a Friday, Sunday, or even Monday evening.

The wedding will be just outside of Denton, but we don't mind traveling a little.

Very respectfully,

Give a few more parameters. Are you wanting steak house and after dinner cocktails? Patio drinking and good food? Nice dinner and dive bar afterwards? What do you guys consider a fun date night?

What's your definition of "a little"? Denton is about 40 miles from either downtown Dallas or Ft. Worth if you're looking for a night out in a big city.

Town Hearth if you make it to Dallas. Drinks at the Usual and dinner at Ellerbees if you make it to Fort Worth.

Barley and Board in Denton is a pretty cool place on the square.

Check out the Grapevine winery tours. It's near the airport.

We don't mind an hour drive. I would prefer Ft Worth destinations over Dallas.

Also Steaks and drinks are great, but really looking for a nice quiet place to eat good food and carry on a conversation.

Your number 1 recommendation for each that you listed? That's only 3, thanks!

I'm not the best for Ft. Worth advice as I live in Dallas. Based on my limited Ft. Worth experiences, here are some things I would suggest. There are those on this board much better suited for Ft. Worth advice than me. Because you're coming next weekend and it is patio season so some of my suggestions revolve around that.

1. Rooftop Patio at Reata - Reata is a unique and great experience and the rooftop patio is fantastic with a good drink. Get the tenderloin tamales to start.

2. Grace - For fine dining I prefer Grace over the other steakhouses in Ft. Worth. Other steakhouses include Del Frisco's, The Capital Grille and Bob's.

3. Joe T's Patio - We all know the food is average. That isn't why you're there. If I wanted to enjoy a nice evening with my wife (and an uber) I'd pick Joe T's on the patio with margaritas.

4. Stockyard's Experience - Not sure if you'd like to experience the Stockyard's or not but Hunter Bros H3 Ranch steakhouse is a good meal in the stockyards. You can then walk in and out of some of the bars and have a good time (White Elephant, Booger Red's saloon) or even visit Billy Bob's.

5. For a good "Texas" experience take a look at Lonesome Dove Western Bistro. It is chef Tim Love's original restaurant and always has an interesting (think wild game) and cool menu.

Depending on where you're staying, downtown McKinney has some great options and is a fun place to visit.

This seems like a good recommendation for Ft. Worth (assuming the weather is nice). For Dallas may want to check this list: https://interactive.dmagazine.com/best-dallas-restaurants-right-now/, might want to check out Buillion if they still have reservations remaining.

Also may want to check out 560 in Dallas. https://www.opentable.com/five-sixty-by-wolfgang-puck. It is in the reunion tower, rotates and has a cool view.

Go eat at Campisi's Egyptian lounge in downtown Dallas. The ambiance is great and the food is pretty good. It's one of my favorite Italian places in town.

Dunston's or Kostas if you want Greek.

These last three are fine... but not really a night out spot. For Dallas I would go to Javiers.
