The best restaurants in Bastrop are 30 minutes away in Austin.

Buc-Ee's

Seriously, though, I'd do whatever walking around you want, then stop to eat at the Hyatt Lost Pines on the way back. They have 2 restaurants there

BBQ at Zimmerhanzels in Smithville.

Catfish Parlor in downtown Bastrop is pretty good too if you really wanna eat in Bastrop proper.

You mean Paw Paw's?

When it comes right down to it, there's not a lot of great options in Bastrop that you couldn't do much better in Austin.

I'd recommend Cedar's Mediterranian Grill. Whatever your order, get a cup of the crawfish chowder. Better yet, screw the rest of the menu and get a bowl (or two) of the crawfish chowder.

We had a great day in Bastrop. Nice Tuesday. Went to the great little museum of Bastrop County. Then went and had a drink at noon at the Distillery. Then ate at Maxines Diner. Had a great Party melt with Onion rings and wife had the grilled catfish. Walked around the downtown area and also walked the historic homes. Then walked along the Colorado river and back to the Old Town Bar and grill and had a drink and some ice cream.

We live in Kyle so the 40 minute drive is not bad. Will go back and try some other restaurants.

Being in Kyle, to eat we have to go to San Marcos, Wimberley, Lockhart, new Braunfels, or South Austin to eat

If you go to south Austin, check out Evangeline Cafe on Brodie.

Pie Society is our top for Pizza.

The Oyster bar downtown is great in the summer. Beer and oysters can't be beat.

Hays County BBQ is the best. San Marcos BBQ is getting there also.

Heberts is good Mexican

Sean Patrick's Irish Pub is my wife's favorite bar and bar food place. Cool hangout for found and old farts.

Pretty dang good chicken fried steak at Gracie's. If you get a chance, go see the Bucksnort Boogie Boys when they play there. Great little band.

Not Bastrop, but we ate at Honey's in Smithville last weekend. Holy ***** The best pizza I've had. Ever. It was fantastic. And the beers on tap were excellent as well. We will be back soon I hope. It was nice atmosphere as well outside with a big gas fire pit.

Did they finally fix their soggy crust issue? We went several months after the first opened and haven't been back. Crust was so soggy, you had to use a fork and knife. Atmosphere was cool though.

They must've because our crust was excellent.

I'll have to give them another shot then.

If you're ever between Bastrop and Elgin on 95, give Consilina's a shot (and don't be put off by the fact that it's attached to a gas station).

It doesn't have the ambience of Honey's, but it's a legit wood-fired pizza.

Honey's Pizza is dang good.

We eat there often.

Zimmerhanzels BBQ is legit.

Also try Your Mom's in Smithville. Great burgers that are stuffed with cheese. Dang good chicken fried steak too. Great atmosphere.
