My wife loves sangria made with brandy and thinks she wants to get into sipping brandy straight. I know nothing other than it's distilled wine. Cognac is a French variant. VS, VSOP, and XO refer to how long cognac has been aged, but isn't regulated.
Outside of all that, what should I be looking for in a moderately priced bottle ($50-60)? What brands should I snag? What should I avoid?
