After many visits to Pastry War in Houston, I'm trying to get into Mezcal. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good bottle of mezcal for around $50 or less, if such things exist? Thanks

Del Maguey is a really good brand. They do tons of different single village varietals. You can find a fair number under $50. I like their Chichicapa, which goes for about $70.

Fidencio is a good brand as well, though my favorite of theirs (Madrecuixe) is quite a bit more and is extremely smoky.
