So I got put in charge of drinks of my 4th of July weekend. I have the beer covered, but need some help making some sangria. I've made some in the past that have been okay, but I really want this to be a hit. I need a white, sweet one and a red one with a little more kick to it. Instead of just picking out whatever looks good after a few minutes of googling, I figured TA could give better advice. TIA

I've made this one, and it is outstanding. Use Tuaca if you can't find Licor 43, which isn't very common.
Haven't made the red, but if it's a reasonable facsimile of the recipe from Jaleo, I'm sure it's pretty damn good.http://oggi-icandothat.blogspot.com/2010/11/jos-andr-red-wine-sangria.html?m=1

Open a bottle of bourbon.

Pour some bourbon into a glass.

Drink the bourbon.

Simplest and tastiest sangria recipe I know.

While I am just fine with that, for some reason everyone else isn't.

Prob not too kick ass, but I pour about half a pitcher of sweet red wine, add about 1/4 ginger ale, 1/4 central market blood orange soda. I'll then pour banana liquor in to up the alcohol a bit. We have added brandy to it as well aaaaaaaaand Everclear is added to the wine sometimes

(Restaurant) Jaleo's Red Wine Sangria recipe FTW:

Red Wine Sangria
adapted from Made in Spain by Jos Andrs

1 bottle fruity red wine
1/4 cup brandy
1/4 cup Cointreau
1/4 cup vodka
a splash of ruby port
2 mandarin oranges, sliced
2 granny smith apples, diced
1 strip of lemon zest
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
a splash of soda water

  • Combine the wine, brandy, Cointreau, vodka, port, orange slices, apples, and cinnamon stick in a bowl and refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Pour the mixture into a pitcher filled halfway with ice. Add the orange juice and soda water, give a quick stir and serve.

You start with some wine
Add some apples and brandy and sugar just fine...

You can substitute soda with sparkling wine. Also gin can be used instead of vodka. Brandy is the secret. Any cheap red will work also. And you can put just about any fruit in the mix. The key is to let the mix chill for several hours and add the sparkling wine just before serving.

Talon,
I ended up going with a similar one. It turned out great. I also picked a white one from online and it sucked ass.

I made way too much. Have plenty left over for today. I removed the Orange slices to prevent the mixture to go bitter

What's funny is if you google the lyrics for that song they are all over the map.
