Thinking of getting a BGE as I have a large smoker and a trailer smoker but was wondering what the max capacity is for the XL. I really want to be able to put on at least 2 large briskets and possibly 4 pork butts, has anyone tried putting that much on one before with success?

I don't think you would be able to with a stock XL. You may be able to purchase certain accessories like grill extender or an adjustable rig.

Do an image search of grill extender for big green egg. There are a few pictures that may be more helpful.

Do you want the BGE just for smoking or you'll smoke with it but use it as a grill as well?

Going to use it for both. Essentially looking to replace my charcoal grill and be able to smoke smaller batches of stuff without having to fire up the bigger smoker.

I'm pretty sure you could do 2 brisket or 4 butts on an XL.

I use my BGE grill extender to put water pan on level 1 and meat on level 2. If you use both levels for meat then you will need to rig a heat baffle underneath. Here are a few photos to show some setups.

Webber smokey mountain 22.5 will do it quite easily.

The bge is a superior product.... but I believe primarily bc of its versatility. I smoked two brisket in November in DFW with the temps outside at 35.... (youngest sons 1st bday). Had no issue getting up to or holding temp.

I can keep a 225, 250, 275 temp for hours and hours with little to no change (via electronic thermometer). I even leave the house now for an hour or so with no worries.

Ive been very satisfied with it....

I use the wsm to bbq/smoke....and have a gas grill for grilling.

That is the exact reason I asked if he wanted it for more than a smoker. The WSM is awesome for just BBQ.

WRONG! I grill steaks, bake pizzas, grill chicken, smoke brisket and pork butts, beef ribs, pork ribs and on and on....................................don't think a crockpot can do all of that.

Well I took the plunge, looking at it I think I can get 2 briskets on there. Looking forward to getting it going.
