There are quite a few great places.

1. Stella (if you have the cash to burn)
2. Irene's is good
3. Adolfo's (short walk into the Marigny)
4. Galatoire's

There are some others a short drive crom the Vieux Carre also (i.e Cochon and Clancy's).

I'd make the trek just outside the French Quarter to Drago's.

Charbroiled oysters... a consistent thing we go back to NOLA for, specifically at Drago's.

Have lunch at ACME Seafood. Was there for a long weekend last month and we all agreed that was our best move.

Also, not food related, but DO go to the WWII museum there (we didn't know there was one there, either, but trust me.) Do NOT go there thinking you can do it in half a day. We did, and we shorted ourselves badly. Spend a whole day. (They close at 5pm, but there is a "Canteen" that stays open 'til 7 or 8 and they have a good happy hour.)

Doc...I have been there a few times..I like that place.

Been living here for a few months now and I have had a few places. Got some family coming into town this weekend and wanting to show them the best food I can get so I figured I would take some rec's.

Thanks!

GREAT post. I love Acme for their quality of Oysters(I prefer raw over charbroiled any day).

And the WWII Museum...I did that 2 weeks ago and literally spent 6.5 hours there. It was truly incredible.

Neither are in the Quarter, but not far by cab.

Gigem,

I would try Galatoire's as long as you aren't going for lunch on a Friday. It's a dressy affair and the locals stand in line for a table.

I would also recommend you walk around one morning before it gets too warm and find a little spot for breakfast/brunch. It's one of my favorite things to do. Quiet time in the quarter with just those that live there.

And I think John Besh has a restaurant in the WWII museum. I haven't tried his restaurants, but I have heard they are good.

If you want to take a cab, I have always had superb meals at Clancy's. It is a no-lose recommendation. Probably my favorite. In the Quarter, try Galatoire's

gautreau's and clancy's were both pretty great. i think i'd put clancy's with slightly better food, gautreau's with better cocktails

Frank's Restaurant, catty-corner from Café DuMond at 933 Decatur. A step above a hole-in-the-wall but excellent food!

New Orleans cajun

Keep in mind that Cajun cuisine is in the Lafayette region of the state . . . lots of world-class food in NO but Cajun won't be among the top contenders.

+1 to drago's. Mr B's jazz brunch is highly recommended. The sun ray grill downtown has my favorite burger - the malibu.

Pesce, across from the WW2 museum. Just outside of the French Quarter, but worth the trip.

Oceana Grill on Conti...better oysters than Drago's.

You're welcome in advance all.

Word is the owner sucked all the cash out of the restaurant (has two Ferraris).

And Oceana has had some "cleanliness" issues in the past. That's being polite.
