Cyber Truck bomber was active duty in 10th group

New Orleans guy was a Veteran, staff sergeant.

Interesting follow.

The NO attacker was the perfect candidate for radicalization in place.

I'm curious to see if the LV attacker was actually an 18 series. His piss poor bomb making attempt makes me doubt it.

It's an interesting follow.

He was based out of Germany with 10th Group.

Part of the mission set is collecting atmospherics in Eastern Europe and civil reconnaissance. In SFQC (SF Qualification Course) you spend 6 months in Basic Special Operations Language Course, Russian being one of the options. I was in the Arabic course. Soldiers/Officers get a true deep dive into the region with instructors that are native to each region.

So the Ukrainian war recruitment effort of his definitely checks out. With training and real world experience in irregular warfare is this an incident of "going native"? Build up of PTSD and finally went off the rails? Drug induced psychosis?

If he was an actual 18 series, perhaps being psychotic would make sense of his poor execution.

I know people who have driven across state lines without remembering anything while in a brief psychotic state

Sounds like depression/psychotic episode to me.

Suicide with some element of symbolic gesture. I suspect the dude didn't intend to kill anyone -- so he didn't build a "car bomb" -- more like a big ass fireworks display after he shot himself in Vegas. Kind of a "go out in a blaze of glory on New Years Day" kind of a thing,

The conspiracy theories hinge on the idea that "it doesn't make any sense" -- as if people having suicidal psychotic breaks are operating rationally.

We are kind of lucky the SOF guy was just suicidal and the PAC Clerk was the mass murderer.

Switch the two positions and NOLA would have been a LOT worse.

From. Benedict Arnold to Timothy McVeigh, folks in the military have proved to be flawed humans, kind of like the rest of us.

I still expect the best from service members, but the exceptions have been spectacular

Clearly had the training and capability to do much worse. For whatever reason, he chose not to. Thankfully.

Doesn't Carson have a ridiculously high suicide rate?

All Army posts do……

I remember going to lackland for ID card services and they had senior NCOS and officers on the side of the run with posters and signs saying we love you, you are worth it and seize the day. It was delightful.

I should have went Air Force

So he spent 19 years in the service and rose to the rank of E-6?

If you are talking about the NO guy, it's not uncommon. He spent most of his time in the Reserves in a low density MOS.

I had them confused. But still, I can understand why his unit is confused.

Other posters should be aware the special operations training part of this post is wildly speculative and lacks the proper context. I would not question the therapy/prescription piece, and in fact would agree this fits the mold of a psychic break more than a "gone native" episode.

I've spent some time at the center of the universe at Fort Bragg (now Liberty).

What's the speculation? I didn't say anything that wasn't factual.

Edit: oh you aren't calling out my SOF insight but more about why he snapped.

Yeah, that's why I gave a couple scenarios rather than just one. But I believe we have the ability to speculate and wonder about what happen to this dude. It's a military message board.
