It looks like I'll be traveling for work, arriving in London just past noon on Monday the 11th, then traveling to Bristol.

Not sure if anyone has been in either city for Remembrance Day, or if there's a reasonable detour I should make for the occasion?

I am an Army veteran if that affects your recommendations.

The Cenotaph in Whitehall is probably still worth a visit, as is the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey.

First time I got to experience this in Sydney, Australia, I had no idea what was happening.
And I was working with a Russian guy and a Chinese guy who also had no idea what was going on.

In the regular business offices, you're asked to stay silent and face West while they play Taps over the business's intercom/speaker system.

Everybody participates and shows a lot of respect.

You'll also see people wearing poppies all day.
In Sydney, it was a Veterans organization (RSL) and school children who were selling them (as I recall).

My experience was with the Commonwealth contingents (UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) at HQ ISAF in Kabul in 2009.

And they were allowed to wear poppies on their uniforms for the day.

Get a red poppy lapel pin to wear.

As did the Aegis Security guys in Iraq. Most of them are former Brit Mil along with the Commonwealth.

I know you are going to England but if your work takes you across the channel at some point, and it isn't too far to travel from wherever you go, attend the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium. You don't have to worry about a specific date, they have a ceremony every evening at 8pm and have done so every evening since 1928, other than during the German occupation during WWII.
