Came across the album of 78's produced by the FTAB, Singing Cadets, and Aggieland Orchestra when my class of 1950 dad was at A&M. There's a picture of the FTAB on the inside of the jacket that caught my eye. The Bugle Rank is not composed of seniors while other seniors are in the ranks. Anybody know why this might have been?

are you sure it wasn't seniors, i thought in the past not all seniors could afford boots.

I believe in the old days the bugle rank was for good marchers who did not play an instrument but wanted to be in the band. By the 1950s though I believe they were all seniors and yes some seniors could not afford boots in the 30s-50s.

I knew a man who was a BQ fish in the fall of 1944 and he couldn't play well, so Col Adams put him on the bugle rank.

Different times for sure.

I don't think the idea of seniors without boots is correct as several cadets are wearing green pants.
Those were worn by fish and p'heads back in the day.

My cousin bq class 77 and on the bugle rank told me once that they had guys marching that basically could play hardly anything. Only there to march

I knew exactly one guy during my time in the Band who couldn't play. The famous and well loved Rick Price '74.

Lost Rick in the C-5 crash in Germany during the first Gulf War.

When I was a fish he showed up in my room and stuck three brass elephants on the monster. Was laughing as he walked out hollering fish has elephants. That ended up being painful.

As a former unofficial alternate Bugle Rank member I did almost every parade, review, etc. but never did a game. The Bugle Rank members were all about handing off the position to other people during non-halftime events while they went off and did other things. Depending on the context of the picture, they could have just handed off their bugles to underclassman while they did something else.

When was that? I don't recall that our Bungle Rank guys ever handed off their spot

What class were you? I got to March bugle rank once when the Corps went to Sbisa for evening chow in spring my zip year. Also did the BQ song that night. Good times.
