I went back and checked my emails... It is a real thing but has its own ribbon. This is from the article

Soldiers in pay grades E1 through E3 can be promoted to the next grade up to specialist, or E4 within 60 days of a referred applicant shipping to basic training. The promotions occur regardless of time in service or time in grade requirements, instead only obligating that a Soldier "be in good standing and not flagged," according to a memo authorizing the program. Troops can only receive one such promotion in their career.

A Soldier of any rank who refers an applicant will receive the new Army Recruiting Ribbon when the candidate attends training, according to an Army directive establishing the award. Troops can receive the ribbon up to four times during their career, and each award of the ribbon will provide 10 promotion points to enlisted troops competing to make sergeant or staff sergeant.

The accelerated promotions pilot will last for a year, according to the memo, but the Army directive establishing the recruiting ribbon instructs service officials to revise permanent regulations to include the award.

The first two very well may be.

Doubt they'd hand out an MSM for referring 5 folks.

MSM usually for significant contributions, organization wide, for an extended period. Other two are mostly seen as achievement awards. One time or over a period of time.

Agreed.

Its insane what people had to do back in the day for an AAM vs in 2023.

Soldiers clearing vietcong rat tunnels and put in for AAMs, now people get them for stepping up an driving an LMTV because it was outside of your job description.

Army Achievement Medals were not even in existence during Viet Nam. They were authorized in 1981. You may have been thinking about the Army Commendation Medal. The Navy/Marines had an Achievement Medal starting in 1961.

My first experience working alongside the Army was at USFK and I was blown away with how liberal they were with handing out AAMs. Folks that came out TDY for a three week command post exercise got them for sitting in the JLOC and answering the phone.

Of course, we Airmen get Bronze Stars for hanging out in MOBs eating Popeyes, so I'm not exactly throwing stones here...amazes me how much has changed since my grandfather had to take three bullets in the Battle of the Bulge before getting a Bronze Star in WWII.

Does the Aggie Corps still have a Recruiting Badge for getting someone to join?

I recall it was known in my day as the Buddy Fornicator Badge

I'll have to find the source but every Army infantryman and every combat medic earned a bronze star during WWII just for their MOS

Per Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_Star_Medal

My grandfather bronze star as an Army infantryman in the pacific in WWII. Did nothing but his job and earned his CIB on Iwo Jima. Date is off as this is after he passed and grandmother was trying to get veterans affairs in order for his funeral and such. *also interesting is how Iwo Jima is listed as "air offensive against Japan" since it was all about the airfields
