I'm reviewing resumes and I come across a guy who says he went to Ranger School in the 90s.
He lists some of his former MOS as 11M and 11B-V

I know 11M is like a Bradley Crewman but I'm not sure about 11B-V.

Scouring the Internet, it looks like this is another way to say - Airborne Ranger and maybe a holdover from Vietnam.

Is 11B-V a common way to describe being an Airborne Ranger Infantryman? I'm asking because I've never seen it listed that way before.

V - Ranger Parachutist

That's correct, the "V" is an skills identifier for being Ranger and Airborne qualified. He also would have had a number between the B and V, such as 11B30V would identify him as a Sergeant(E5) Infantryman that is Ranger and Airborne qualified. I can understand why that would have been left out as it's confusing if you don't know how to read the codes.

It does not denote that he was a member of one of the Ranger Battalions.

I remember circa 1995 when they were fielding the M1A2 Abrams that there was some sort of special skill identifier for 19K tankers who had been trained on the M1A2.

And apparently due to a glitch in the personnel system, circa 1997, I had a young Enlisted soldier in my National Guard Unit in San Angelo who had an Astronaut rating in his profile (obviously he wasn't an Astronaut).

I don't doubt the guy whose resume I'm looking at is who he says he is, it's just that I had never seen that 11B-V designation for Airborne Ranger before. Thanks for clearing that up.

A holdover from Vietnam being interviewed for a job? Not unless he's well into his 70's.
