Helping the widow of a friend with some estate issues. Lots of firearms. One is a 1904 Remington. Looks exactly like a '03 Springfield - 30-06 caliber, Mauser locking lug, sites, and wood furniture.

Anyone heard of such a thing?

Can you post pictures of the rifle, with as much detail on the receiver as is relevant? Any other markings?

If it is as you described it is Remington's version of the '03 Springfield. It is M1903A4. The sniper rifle version of the 1903. I have looked in my gun bible and there is Remington 1904 shotgun but no 1904 rifle that fits your description.

Is there the initials "FJA" or "RLB" on the left side of the stock between the trigger assembly and the off hand side of the bolt ?

Does it have a hooded front site?
