I ran across this article a day or two ago. I was just stunned that the Sergeant Major of the Army has nothing better to do than dream up ways to put lipstick on the pig that is the ASU used as a duty uniform.

Tried on my AF Ike jacket from 1956 recently. Couldn't get it over my shoulder !

Doesn't help that it's ill-fitted on the model.

The ARMY website says the official colors are black and gold, but the only thing black/gold on the uniform are shoulder boards. I agree OP. If changes are required solicit opinions from the rank and file and retirees.

I think the Ike jackets are a great look, but that pic is SO bad..... if the Army is hoping to garner support for this jacket by showing one that fits like a potato sack on a model it makes me wonder whether or not they really want to adopt it.

The Army website says that the Army website's official colors are black and gold. The Army itself doesn't have an "official color."

Soldiers were asked for their input - many requested an Ike jacket. Retirees weren't polled because they aren't in the Army anymore.

The dress-blues-for-everyday idea is dumb, but adding an Ike jacket isn't any worse than the idea as a whole

I had always been told our official colors are black and gold, but honestly do not even know where that would have been published. Office of heraldry? I also do not know where branch colors were published but I doubt any one ever questioned that.

Personally not a big fan of the Ike jacket but not against it either. Either way I am out and no longer get a say.

I was not a fan of the transition to every day blues or having a white daily uniform shirt, but I got out as that was going on so was not effected nearly as severely as some of my buddies in the pentagon. Always been a fan of the Navy and Marine Corps high collar dress uniform. Always thought Navy dress whites were the sharpest. However even in an office environment daily wear white uniform shirts are asking for trouble. Just seem to attract ink and ketchup.

Oh and Stetsons are by far the best piece of uniform gear in any military at any point in history... but I am pretty biased.

I will tell you from a meeting I have with SMA that this is not his priority. He is the best SMA we have had in my 13 year career. What probably is going on is someone suggested it and Army Times ran with it.

IIRC, at time several years ago when the Army was studying the transition from the greens to the blues one of the options that was studied was having a grey shirt available for wear with the blue trousers/skirt, supposedly for wear in an office setting when the blouse wasn't needed or required. For whatever reason, that option was rejected. The grey shirt would not have been authorized for wear with the dress blouse, only with the trousers/skirt without the blouse. The grey shirt might have been a bit more forgiving in an office environment than a white shirt.

I recall that as well. I liked the idea & think it is what we should have done. Not sure why we did not. I assume it was a cost issue, if so I think it would have been worth it.

I'm still a fan of bringing back the khaki uniforms. A nice office uniform that can easily be stepped up with the addition of the coat, or even an Ike jacket.

Unless you're Ike, no one looks good in an Ike jacket.

Khakis as Class B's, Pinks and Greens as Class As, then the Dress Blues and Mess Dress for formal attire.

It is definitely cut for a thin person. Stocky, fat, muscular.... none of those body shapes look good in that jacket at all.

The grey shirts didn't pass durability tests. They were cut for that and to also keep the cost of the uniform down a bit. And, in practice, they were ugly as ****.

Every uniform change since WWII has been worse than its predecessor. The "Class B" version of today's dress uniform is probably the most hideous military uniform ever created, and that includes third world dictators. That blue pants/white shirt combination is downright laughable, and is more akin to something seen in an accounting firm than a military service.

Congress should pass a law that prohibits Army general officers from making uniform decisions. Seriously - those guys have been screwing up Army uniforms for the past 60 years or so.
