Lack of music from FTAB

I was disappointed in the performance (or lack there of) from the FTAB while in the stands. You get free 50 yard line tickets and besides Hot Time and War Hymn @ the quarter, I don't think they played more than two songs (one of which was the theme from Bonanza)during the second half.

Why the lack of music? The Baylor band, on the other hand, was playing music constantly.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS A JUMBO SKYBOX AND GROUND CONTROLLER DECIDING WHEN HEAD YELL AND FTAB CAN DO THEIR THING.

FACT:
JUMBO GAME ACTIVITY CONTROLLERS HAVE SUCKED THE OXYGEN INITIATIVE FROM THE TEXAS AGGIE 12th Man.

If that is the case, why was the Baylor band playing about every 5 minutes during the game?

If you look at the front of the band, you'll see a cadet wearing fancy ear phones. He's responsible for making sure the band isn't playing when it's not supposed to. I assume the Baylor band, as a visiting band, doesn't have to listen to whoever runs the media at Kyle Field.

Bop always thought there was some sort of football penalty for a team if their collegiate band played while official game play occured on the field.

If so, Baylor's band was guilty all afternoon.

No penalties called.

Aggie Band is told when they are allowed to play and Yell Leaders can only do Yells when "allowed". Jumbotron did change alot of things.

ADVANCE GAME SCRIPTING IS ALREADY DONE...

One day Jumbo operations will be advance scripting the Head Yell Leader on what yells to call, and when, plus FTAB's specific music to play, and when.

Jumbo can also throw his financial weight around at Kyle.

Not mention the fact that the damn thing is too damn loud. No need for that.

Cadet with earphone/boom mike should be the one telling the jumbo operator he has time to present something before the band starts playing again, not the other way wround.

But we all know that will never happen.

What Devil said.

If I recall correctly, the band can play as long as it doesn't interfere with the play. In my day, the FTAB would start a song and when the team went to the line we would take the volume down until after the snap. At that point we would bring the volume back up.

I was just fed up with the fact that their band was playing constantly and the FTAB played four songs the entire game.

There needs to be a yell leader cam or something like that in the bottom corner of the screen at all times, at the very least. Too many missed yells.

Jumbo controller has simply "robbed the 12th Man" STUDENT ELEMENT (and initiative) with too many public address announcements, non-game related fuzzy-good feeling stories about ol' Ags, past A&M football hero, soccer AND tennis AND ping-pong champions, etc..

TASO football official here...

NCAA '11-'12 Football Rules:

Rule 1, Article 6.
a) All persons subject to the rules are governed by decisions of the officials.

b) Those persons subject to the rules are: Everyone in the team area, players,
substitutes, replaced players, coaches, athletics trainers, cheerleaders, band
members, mascots, public-address announcers, audio and video system operators
, and other persons affiliated with the teams or institutions.

Rule 9, Section 2 (Unsportsmanlike Conduct Fouls), Article 1:

b) 5: Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals (Rule 1-1-6).

Penalty: Dead-ball foul. 15 yards from the succeeding spot (S7 and S27). Automatic first down for fouls by Team B if not in conflict with
other rules. Flagrant offenders, if players or substitutes, shall be disqualified (S47).

I've only seen this become an issue once in HS play. In a playoff game I was working last season, the band for one side was in the endzone bleachers. The opposing team had driven down to the red zone and before every snap, the band would synchronize a loud uncoordinated "blare" during the signal calling. No penalty was called, but the white hat walked over to the stands and told the band director or game administrator to stop the activity. They did...problem solved.

The rule sounds about the same as when I was in then. The band just needs to play more often and folks can listen to them while watching the instant replay. I can understand needing to sell some adds on the Jumbtron in order to pay for it, but come on. Let the band play!

every game is scripted to the second pretty much, have you not noticed the decreased football atmosphere over the years? I've seen one of these scripts before and yes, the bands wear the headphones and are told when they can play.

The visiting bands just don't give a crap and do what they want. If the Aggie Band does, they'll get crap for it from Athletics. Don't be fooled this is Athletics events, not anyone else's. That said, they do some things great.

The environment at Kyle was so much better before all this scripted crap, yells, band, just some silence. Now not a second can go by without some team being recognized, some ad, some loud obnoxious crap on the jumbo tron.

It sucks from this 27-year Aggie football attendee.

SCRIPTED KYLE...

There are very powerful people who have bought into the Jumbotron reign at Kyle; those who will not listen to reason nor re-evaluate what they've done to the student game-time atmosphere.

They decided long ago to emulate a similar pro-football stadium electronic predominance with non-stop Jumbotron board activity. Ribbon boarding came next.

NOT A NANO-SECOND OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL IS WASTED.

The crowd at Kyle is now focused on Jumbo as if in an all inspired awe and a pre-conditioned state of mind.
It started with instant replay but has evolved into greater dimension and dominance thus they've...

SUCKED TOO MUCH OXYGEN FROM THE STUDENT BODY 12th MAN, AND CREATED A MONSTER.
