Had they announced this sooner there would have been a stampede of new accounts transferring from Marine Federal and Marine West. NFCU has always managed to edge out USAA in the area of personal banking in my experience.

Marine Federal CU just announced the same.

So that takes care of one leg of the services. Any idea if the Army and AF are going to work towards this as well?

I'm sure the Army will follow suit if the Marines did. But that's only after a committee has been formed, a survey on AKO has gone out (to which complaints of low responses is widely circulated), and pamphlets and vignettes have been processed and disseminated.

It will probably be very helpful to have an information pack ready for spouses of deployed troops to inform them of the protections afforded under the SSRA if a paycheck is missed.

Slightly off topic but, the Armed Forces Relief societies are going to get a workout during the shutdown providing groceries and essentials to the paycheck to paycheck portion of the force. For all of the annual harassment to donate to the armed forces relief societies they had better be pretty damn liberal in granting no-interest loans to this in need now that there is something that may approach a real crisis for a large number of junior servicemen and their families. I have always been leery of those organizations because they will not disclose the salary, benefits, or other compensation given to their senior leadership and what percentage of donations that consumes. Now is their chance to shine.

DFAS now refuses to post our LES.

Here's their statement:

quote:
Due to the potential shutdown of the federal government, we have "taken down" all Leave and Earnings Statements (LESes) or "Advice of Pays" for Active Duty Military and Reservists. We will re-post LESes when we receive more information on the shutdown or enacted legislation that authorizes pay beyond April 8
All military will get paid on April 15.

If a CRA or appropriation is not passed before April 15, military members will be paid on April 15 for the period of April 1-8, approximately one half their normal mid month pay.

If a CRA or appropriation is passed by Tuesday, April 12, military members will receive their full pay for duty served from April 1-15 on April 15.

If a CRA or appropriation is not until after April 12, DFAS will pay military members for the period of April 9-15 within 3 days of an appropriation or CRA being passed.

Apparently the backlash from DFAS posting "1 week" LES forms online was severe.

I was in the military and i fill for you all glad there wasnt a shut down. i heard today on fox news that when the government shut down the last time the military still got payed. That is the presidents call Obama failed the military and that is all there is to say. Because you know he is still going to get his pay for doing nothing at all.

In 1995, the budget for the military had already been passed, so there was money to pay the troops.

This time, NO budget bills had been passed - for ANYTHING!

Budget bills must be initiated by the House, so blame Pelosi - and Obama as well, for not putting his foot up her rear to make her do her job.

I guarantee you that if there were a law rendering any sitting member of Congress ineligble for reelection that year if a budget isn't passed for the following Fiscal year by June of an even-numbered year, they'd make damn sure it was passed.

Are they offering an 'investment' seminar and a chicken dinner to go with it?

I've heard horror stories about them.
