Winter A's.

Morning PT Gear formation.

Evening Uniform of the Day formation.

fish in the fallout hole at 3:57 dreading 4:00 pm

Put the decision on when Corps brass has been earned back in the hands of the individual outfits. Corps wide Corps brass weekend was a terrible idea. God forbid that a zip who wasn't cadre wanted to show up to see the fish get their brass.

What?

At one point, morning formation followed outfit PT. Now there is PT in the evenings.

PT in the evenings? Dear God.

I don't want to hear any more. I hope those training for the military are exempt from that BS. If you can't get up an PT every day at 0-dark thirty and still work your ass off until you finally come home at 1900-2000, you will not last long.

Apparently some fish Jones wasn't doing so hot in an 8 o'clock class, so they put the Corps in uniform at 6 am.

I remember this. I also remember the fish still doing this my zip year.

As far as pt gear in the mornings, I think we did it on Friday after corps run

Stricter Fraternization rules (Aggie Band is ONE OUTFIT, for example)

"Back in the day" 5pm was Corps time. That's when BQs practiced, Corps did PT and drill, etc. Nothing went on in the morning...unless you were a fish and screwed up and had to come by the phead room at first call.

Only exception I can think of was early Band Drill the Friday morning of away (Corps Trip) games.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
1) Aggie Band Drill 5-6pm Monday -Thur; Friday & Saturday 7am

2) Family style chow morning and evening.

3) Outfit spirit sheets during football season.

4) No fat cadets!

5) Class A Summer and Winter's for ALL formal events, including football games

6) Final Review at the Main Drill Field, not Kyle Field

Back in the day, the afternoon time from 1700-1630 was for "outdoor activity" university-wide... the Corps had drill time or intramurals, the Band and FDT practiced, and the civilians had intramurals at that time also. There were very few classes scheduled during that time. Unfortunately with the growth of the student body the reserving of 5-630pm for these activities fell by the wayside. The Corps still has "training time" from about 430-6 or 615, but many cadets miss some or all of these sessions on a weekly basis because of class schedule conflicts.

1) Aggie Band Drill 5-6pm Monday -Thur; Friday & Saturday 7am Probably won't happen due to class schedule conflicts

2) Family style chow morning and evening. Would be great, but the bean counters think it's too expensive

3) Outfit spirit sheets during football season. yes

4) No fat cadets! yes

5) Class A Summer and Winter's for ALL formal events, including football games Have heard the Ike jackets are coming back. If so, good bull

6) Final Review at the Main Drill Field, not Kyle Field Back when it was just a few parents and dates that showed up, you could do this. With the crowd now, I don't think it's happening.

OK, here's my run at the wish list:

1. BQ drill at 1700: Would love to see it. I think that there might be some progress on this by the time next fall rolls around.

2. Family style back in Duncan: A tough nut to crack. My understanding is that Dining Services, University-wide, loses a million bucks/year. This is one reason why A&M is going to start making ALL on campus residents purchase a meal plan, maybe starting as soon as this spring... as you can imagine the civilians are less than thrilled with this idea. It doesn't really affect the cadets since they are required to purchase a plan anyway, but goes to the point of how big the dollar issue is to Dining Svcs in whatever decisions they make. I'd love to see family style back for the Corps... it was such a big part of the training for fish and the culture of the Corps.

3. Class A winters: IHIOGA that the winters will be reissued to all cadets NLT 31 January 11. Now, who's for bringing back Class B Winters and midnight biters?

4.No fat cadets: Well, there have always been fat cadets and probably always will be, but at least there are height/weight standards now. They just need to be enforced. And, whitebelts ought to lead the way in getting their own waistlines in order.

5. Final Review location: There's no one more interested in preserving the traditions of the Corps and A&M than me, but with the crowds that are present at Final REview having the event at Simpson just doesn't make sense. Those who have been at FR the last few years would tell you that the west side first deck is pretty much full for at least the first pass... how many people is that? 8000? I remember when I was a cadet and my mom telling me that spectators really couldn't see Final Review at Simpson unless you were 7 feet tall or were on the first row or two. Let's use Simpson for reviews (and yes, we need to have more) that are not as heavily attended as FR, and keep FR at Kyle. The families and friends of the cadets deserve to see what's going on.

I'll compromise; how about a commissioning review on the Main Drill field prior to FINAL REVIEW on Kyle Field.

Can't tell you exactly, but I'm in my fifth year of being a cadet parent and there hasn't been a Military Weekend in the last five years.

You underestimate the number of 4-year graduates who want to be in boots with their buddies during final review.

Don't do commissioning review anymore, at least I don't recall anything like that. The issue is that Final Review must work around graduation schedules and can thus only be done Saturday night, leaving no time for a review prior to Final Review. I believe graduation used to take place over three days, but has since been moved to two, and is the reason behind this.

As far as the no fat cadets are concerned, I believe the Corps is working on it. There have been many cases of whitebelts covering for their buddies and signing them out of remedial PT or mixing up some numbers slightly on weigh ins or PFTs. And when a fatty shows up with a note from his doctor saying something or the other, Commandant's Staff has two options, ignore it and risk getting sued or let the kid stay and take flak from us. This is something I would really like to see myself, but it's gonna have to start at the outfit level.

The main thing I would like to see is a return is a sharper looking, more discipline Corps where cadets at an individual level care about how they represent the organization.

The way you get around that is that you only allow record PT tests to be graded by actual military personnel and not cadets.

Wasn't Hustlin' 1 disbanded because the unit as a whole preferred disbanding it to what Hopgood wanted?
musicman55
How long do you want to ignore this user?
When was Sq 1 disbanded? The geneology section of the CCA website indicates it was sometime after 1993, but doesn't get any more exact than that....

wasnt hustlin 1 disbanded in 98?

i have a hard time seeing how the food service loses money. the cost per meal is expensive and the food quality is worse than prisons. the commercial grade t-bones were half an inch thick and bent the fork when you tried to hold it down to cut it.
musicman55
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Uli, I share your thoughts about food services... I can't understand it either. I was talking to my son about it yesterday, explaining to him that Dining Services (DS) has to pay to use the dining halls... has to pay for the utilities... has to pay their help... buy the food.... etc. Now they should be able to do that and do a better job (at least at Duncan) than they're doing. They can start by hiring people who understand that it's a different mission to feed 2000 cadets in about 40 minutes in the morning and evening than it is to prepare a buffet breakfast for civilian students that can come and go whenever they want for 2-3 hours. The cadets don't have the time to wait around while things get refilled or if there isn't enough food. I'm really hoping that the new Cmdt will take a hard look at Duncan and work with the DS people to make some changes in how Duncan operates.

For those of you who ate family style @ Duncan; did the fish have to set up the tables before formation?

No, once the outfit marched into Duncan the fish "wired" the table ASAP.

Waiters brought food in bowls, plates, etc and it was the fish responsibility to keep the table wired throughout the meal.

Crystals, pitchers, bottles were organized "tall to wall" and side by side.

This constant work by the fish prevented them from eating too much, keeping them lean and trim.

Keeping the tables squared away and made it nearly impossible to take a dozen bites until the order to "chow-down" was given.
