The wife and I are spending the weekend in San Antonio (driving in from Marshall). What are some places we should try to eat? I enjoy BBQ, Mexican food, Asian, etc. Also...what are the best breakfast spots? We'll be at La Canterra Resort. There's supposed to be a good restaurant there.

It's not really any closer than the 281/1604 area...

Don't get me wrong... The first restaurant I ever went to was El Chap 45 years ago (as a 1 month old) when they only had the front room. My last 2 visits have been underwhelming.

Helotes is much closer to La Cantera than 1604 and 281.

I still stand by this statement... 2M is seriously some of the best BBQ in the state, and 1st Sunday of the month is Barbacoa day... It's well worth the drive across town...

I would also highly recommend B-Daddy's in Helotes. They have porkbelly tacos that are out of this world. I've never tried anything else there but those tacos are unbelievable.

We have eaten at The Rustic in Houston and the food is surprisingly very good. I assume the one in SA is good also.

"Tacos and Salsa" is the ABSOLUTE BEST breakfast or lunch you'll have. Also, they use Bolner's fiesta spices which is Aggie Owned.

Palenque Grill at La Cantera is pretty good. They give you salsa AND refried beans with your chips.
