My wife and I are thinking about changing churches and we are looking for recommendations. We are looking for an uplifting church that has us leaving feeling excited about the week. We also have 3 young daughters so child care and Sunday school are essential. We are currently members at Faith Lutheran in Seguin but the schedule for services and the all but nonexistent children's ministry has created a situation that we have to leave. We are pretty well focused on NB but Seguin isn't out of the question. Thanks for any suggestions

I am not encouraging you to leave your current church. Good good people over there. If you are looking, you can check out next door at FBC. Good children's stuff. I may or may not be a Texas Aggie on staff. Let me know how I can help you.

Reload - My wife and I just moved to NB and are in the process of visiting churches as well. Are you looking to stay Lutheran? We have visited St. Paul Lutheran (LCMC)...there seemed to be plenty of children both times that we visited. I know that does not tell you much about the programs, but the church overall had a good amount of "youth".

You might also check out First Protestant if you are looking for something similar to the Lutheran Church.

We go to Oakwood in New Braunfels. It's big, which I know isn't for everyone, but we got plugged into small group and ministries early and it's been great. If you are sticking with Lutheran I know some friends with kids that go to Cross Lutheran (I think) on common and like it.

My family and I go to to First Protestant Church. We have been members for a few years now, and have felt very welcome. We go to the 10:30 Traditional service, and there is still a decent mix of old and young families present. There is a contemporary service at 10:30, and the preacher there is actually our favorite, but I am just not a contemporary service kind of person.

I highly recommend Legacy Church. Formerly Community Bible of New Braunfels. Great people over there. Pastor is younger and energetic and worship pastor is a great friend and musician. One of the few churches I've been to where Ive felt at home. Their children's ministry is growing like crazy. I used to attend before I was asked to be a house musician at a large church in SA.

We are also members at Oakwood Baptist and the thing that most drew us there was the children's programs. Getting to know Pastor Ray, joining a small group and getting involved in church activities solidified Oakwood for us. I went to the Methodist church for 35 years, so making the transition to a Baptist church was kind of scary. But it has been great...loved every minute of it.

Oakwood is building a new, HUGE children's building which they hope to have open by Easter. It will take an already great children's program and make it exceptional.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

I really appreciate all of the feedback (I love TexAgs). We have visited St. Paul and really enjoyed it and Pastor Paul was great. Is the children's ministry as good as it seems. We are curious about Cross Lutheran but not real familiar with Missouri Synod churches. We have also thought about Oakwood and 1st Baptist but I. Not sure my wife is ready to make the denominational jump yet. Just for the record we loved the time our kids spent at Wee-care at First Baptist.

Reload - I have heard that the school at Cross is very good. That might translate to good kids programs all around.

If I remember correctly, Missouri Synod Churches are a bit more "strict" in running their church (no female pastors, no communion for outside synods, etc.). That said, I bet that different pastors run their churches differently. Maybe worth a visit and a chat with the pastor.

FYI, we visited St. Paul on Heritage Sunday and got to see much of the service performed in German with the Polka Band playing and kids dressed in German garb. Pretty cool even though I couldn't understand it. Good luck with your search.

Big theological differences in Missouri synod and elca. You might look into it because its kind of a big deal.

St. Paul is LCMC. No doubt still different from MO Synod, but not near as left leaning as ELCA.

Yeah I'm aware of the difference between Missouri and ELCA I just wasn't aware of what the Missouri Sy do stood for. Our current church is now a LCMC church but it used to be ELCA and the change caused an major split which destroyed the children's programs. I hate to bail on a church that needs young families but I need to put my kids in a church with a strong youth program. Thanks for all of the feedback.

As others have said, it's right next door, First Baptist Church.
