Merting my mom and sister on Sunday for lunch. We are coming from Houston and they are in SA and have no idea what is in the middle. Not looking for fine dining, just good food at an approximate midpoint. Some place in Columbus has been mentioned that they have been to before, but they say it's not anything special. Any suggestions? Good food trumps atmosphere, etc. in my book.

Have some family also driving from Lake Jackson, so was thinking something close to I-10. Schoebels in Columbus was the place they had mentioned. Any good eats in Weimar, Schulenberg, or Columbus?

Unless your want, BBQ, Mexican or BBQ, no unique eateries that I'd reccomend. Joes is off the path, so I understand that. Schoebels is a pretty good choice for what you want.

has anyone come across a Starbucks on this route? I have never been able to find one before The Woodlands.

How are you going to the woodlands? If you get anywhere near Houston, you can stand at one Starbucks and throw a rock at the next one.

I-10 from San Antonio to Houston? In between the two cities there is nothing! If I missed my coffee on the way out I'm screwed! We tried to get some from a McDonalds once and they took forever, but that was all we could find. :-)

Franks is very similar to the Schobels in Columbus, but much closer to halfway than Columbus.

Flatonia would be the closest town to halfway, I think.

Totally forgot about Roberts in Flatonia. Good choice for a small town steak spot. Been there twice. Enjoyed it. Joes in Fayetteville is just a closer drive, so usually end up there.

I stopped at Frank's about 3 months ago and it's still the same. Love that coconut cream pie!

You are kinda screwed either way! When we drive back to SA from Htown, we usually try to eat off Mason Rd in Katy cause if we don't there are only fast food joints in between. However, Schobels and Paddys in Schulenburg are the only other options I would eat at.

Roberts is best of choices on IH 10--

I routinely stop at Joel's BBQ in Flatonia. There isn't much to the place but its dang tasty!
