I had mine expanded, then shrunk back again, both times by whatever local jeweler was around. No big deal for me personally, I was happy with the work done. But like those above have posted - best bet is send it back to the manufacturer.

While I will do it, I recommend using Balfour to do it through the Association. It is a difficult ring to size and not cheap to do it right. Your warranty will get it done for the price of postage.

If you are going to have a jeweler do it, please let me. I know how these things are put together, and I won't screw it up. I will do my best to talk you out of it, and then do a great job.

i'm betting Chuck is one of those quality inner-loop type individuals.

When i got my ring resized i sent it back to Balfour. If you call them and send it directly to them the wait, while excruciating, isn't too long. Hell they even fixed a few dents on the top for me as well.

AgDev...There are a few of us quality inner loop types. We just don't make it outside enough to show it off.

I have had George Dennis @ Dennis Jewelry work on mine- did a fine job.

i called balfour today and since I put a diamond in it after the fact my warranty is null and void. May try one of the jewelers mentioned.

Chuck is ACES! I know him personally, politically and professionally. He has done quality jewelery work for me at an excellent price. His ethics are above reproach of any sort.

How long is warranty?

Balfour will work on it for life - sizing, etc. Not sure about dings and scratches, but you can call the association ring office for more information. The dark finish wore off mine in what I thought was to short of a time - sent it in and it came back looking like new, but it was mine because I recognized the scratch it had on the inside. Then we installed a stone when I got married and I used Dennis for that along with assorted dings, burrs, and sizing.

With the Association you may or may not get your own ring back if there are major issues with it. They will send a brand new one.

If someone else works on it, they will void the warranty.

Balfour Warranty Policy

The following services will be performed without charge for the original owner of a Balfour college Ring purchased in 1972 or after, and that is still under warranty:

•Repair any defects in workmanship or materials.

•Replace with a new Ring if repairs cannot be made due to defects in workmanship or materials.

•Resize ring (Balfour can resize a Ring up or down 2 sizes over the life of the Ring).

•Restore the original dark finish on your Ring (there is a charge for changing the finish).

•Clean and polish any natural finish Ring that has been purchased in 1998 or after.

•Change graduation date prior to graduation. Any change of date must be approved and handled by the Ring Office.

•No other change from the original order is permitted under this warranty. Rings returned for service may, at the discretion of Balfour, have to be replaced.

•Balfour's warranty is void if someone performs work on a Ring other than Balfour. A repair fee must be paid for any Ring not under warranty.

•If the Ring is damaged or worn beyond your satisfaction, it may be exchanged for a Ring of current design at Balfour's current remake charge. The same gold is not used.

•Diamonds are not covered by Balfour’s warranty.

•Balfour's warranty gives the purchaser specific legal rights, and they may also have other rights which vary from state to state. The Balfour Company makes the final decision under the terms of the warranty.The Balfour warranty does not cover loss of a Ring. You may choose to purchase personal insurance for your Ring.
