Was down there Sunday evening, saw the new LED lighting. Very different, and overall I guess I'd say I'm not crazy about it. Like the old stuff hanging from the trees better. The new lighting is not as festive - could even say it's not festive at all - almost an eerie look to it.

Someone should be fired over this. They're that bad.

Christmas Feeling Lost with LEDs

The real question is whether the switch to LEDs was worth it. The cost figures are disproportionate, but that kind of goes with LED territory — the lights themselves are extremely expensive. The city spent more than $580,000 in 2012 compared to the normal average of $75,000, which was paid for by the Paseo del Rio Association. And, in the next two years, the city’s financial burden decreases to an average of $127,000 per year with LEDs.

Figures show the city will save about $3,000 a year on the electric bill. For even La Grange, that’s nothing.

That is the comical part. Some mathmatician do some calculations and let us know when we will start to save money by switching to those LED's.

The lights are awful. Another brilliant decision by our "city fathers/mothers"

^^ I'll take Bridges over Houston Street down by Spaghetti Warehouse for $400 Alex. Could have sworn I heard squeezeboxes and horns watching the crappy lights change color.

I'll be going on the 7th to check it out.

I was pretty vocal about my opposition to the LED lights but am holding my judgement til I see them personally.

My wife and I went down there tonight to check them out. I expected the worst after reading this. In the end, I had no strong feelings either way. My wife said she preferred the new look.

I think it's nice. The old ones might look better, but they haven't changed in a while and it's nice to see something new.

my company sold a crap load of led to the river walk, but don't think those were it. But maybe they were.

It looks like the average age of the San Antonio city council is 30. One guy is a former rap beat boxer. How can this happen in a city this big? Bad decisions, messing with tradition, spending money where it does not need to be spent is bound to happen with this many inexperienced individuals.

That link above to the aggie park web page is very nice. Only problem--nowhere on that page does it list an actual DATE for the event. I guess it's one of those things where you should just KNOW the date without having to be told.

Funny it doesn't have the date on that page. I'll let 'em know. People typically don't just land on that page though. The http://www.AggiePark.com home page has the date and time listed, so people that visit AggiePark.com should be privy to the info. The date and time is also listed in the emails, so pretty much the only way for someone to not know the date & time of the event is if someone were to forward that specific link, or if someone were to miraculously land on that specific page while surfing the internet. haha

Everyone on here should be getting the Club's emails, by the way, if you aren't visit the home page linked above and click on the "New user, registration..." link at the top of the page. You will never be out of the loop on info if you do this.

im heading to the river this week, but im not a fan of LED lights..

it seems to me that they are too intense.

They actually hurt my eyes to look at them...as if they put out too much energy

I really can't stand most of the led lights I see and I agree that they hurt my eyes somehow. The Riverwalk lights actually look pretty good, though, and they don't irritate my eyes.

Took the family to see the new lights tonight. They were nice but we prefer the older look as well as the way the strands used to hang from the trees.

I don't think the squirrels did as much damage when they were draped as now that they are wrapped.

I'm applying to be a distributor for this company and, once approved, will be approaching the city council with a detailed LED-investment protection plan. Each of these squirrel death boxes will be adorned with a Santa gnome so they'll enhance the beautification of the Riverwalk area.

I went back down there again a couple of nights ago with some out of town friends, Christ, those lights are still hideous. They should have never hired a blind "lighting designer" for the project. Sometimes trying to be inclusive in the process just goes too far.

i thought they were fine but the glow of the led's kind of clash with all the other lighting on the river. i do prefer the wrapped trees versus the draped lights

I wish there would have been some lights draped down from the trees over the river walk. We took a family trip down there yesterday, and the lights were very nice.

On a side note, do not, under any circumstances, ever go down to the river walk the day after Christmas. Talk about a MADHOUSE.
