So I just started dating this girl that lives in Seguin. I live in Buda and every trip I've ever taken to NB was tubing or Schlitterbahn and up until I met her I had never been to Seguin. What are some good restaurants/things to do in Seguin/NB. I know there isn't much. I was planning on hitting up Greune for dinner, but most of the shops close up early on weeknights I believe. I know there is Greune Hall, but neither of us are too much on dancing, haha.

Gruene River Grill is a nice place to grab dinner and overlooks the river. Mozies is also good, but less formal, but good for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks. There are normally a lot of bands playing throughout the week at various locations - check out KNBT FM website for a listing of bands for the week.

Seguin- you are on your own.

Take a handle of your favorite liquor to the Hoity Toit ftw.

But seriously, The Greune River Grill or the Greune Door are both great.

Huisache Grill New Braunfels is a nice medium priced while Myrons Steakhouse is a nice expensive steak house. The Grist Mill in Gruene has excellent food. A bit more of a relaxed atmospher.

As for as places to see,you can always check out The Bruantex Theater to what show they have going. http://www.brauntex.org/. Depending on what she likes, the Sophienburg Museum http://www.sophienburg.com/.

My kid goes to Texas Lutheran. He and his friends go to New Braunfels or San Antonio. I cannot think of anything/place to recommend in Seguin.

For NB, try http://thephoenixsaloon.com/

Or even San Marcos http://www.cheathamstreet.com/

Take her to The Oak (bar) in downtown Seguin. If she likes it, she's a keeper.

You're welcome.

In Seguin go to El Ranchito, or maybe go check out the big pecan, I don't know. The good thing about Seguin is that it is very easy to get on I-10 or TX46

i live in Seguin. When we go to eat, we usually go to new braunfels.

In Seguin, El Ranchito is decent. There's a hole in the wall mexican food joint- Su Casa. Pretty good. Kirby's is a burger joint- it's ok too. Not sure of anything else.

Kinda funny, my wife and I grew up in Buda and we now live in Seguin. We make that drive pretty frequently. Tell her to meet you half way.

Gruene door is really good. Scores sports bar in NB is a nice place to watch a game and shoot pool. Seguin has the Ticket sports bar and The Oak has cold beer. Austin Street live has bands on weekends in Seguin. You could always go to San Marcos as well.

I've been to the Uptown Piano Bar once, and it was pretty laid back place. The above places mentioned are all pretty nice too, esp the Phoenix Saloon (which is smoke free).

Gruene River Grill is very good, great place to take a date. Nice thing about that place is that you also get the feel of Gruene that girls love.

if you have any shot at sleeping with this chick, don't take her anywhere in seguin. you know, unless she likes cow tipping. or taco cabana.

I have lived in Seguin for almost 3 yrs now. Epic fail on "things to do", but like someone else said- easy access to 46 and I-10 and cheaper property/taxes than NB. Any of the above New Braunfels eateries plus I'll throw in Dirtys and Clear Springs on 46. Theres the dirty marketplace movie theater in NB or King theater in Seguin. NB is getting the new theater that should open soon. If you do the coffee thing- there is 3 rivers on the loop in NB.

You obviously weren't here for the Walnut 6 or when the Brauntex still showed movies. Towards the end, the Walnut made the King Ranger look nice. The Marketplace theater was awesome front page news when it opened.

Watched E.T. and many other movies there as a kid. If that building is still standing and hasn't been renovated it would make a perfect Art House/Alamo Drafthouse type theater.

There are other places in NB besides Gruene. I would go to downtown to one or any combination of Liberty Bistro, McAdoo's, Huisache Grill, Myron's, Kork, Faust Brewery, Phoenix, Uptown Piano bar or any of the other bars/pubs. All of them would be good date places and are all in walking distance of each other.

I live in New Braunfels and my wife is from Seguin. Here's what I've got for you...

NEW BRAUNFELS GOOD PLACES:

** McAdoo's (seafood)
** Huisache Grill
** Gruene River Grill
** Gruene Door
** Liberty Bistro
** Myron's (expensive...Ruth's Chris in S.A. is better)
** Grist Mill (food is OK, atmosphere is great)
** After dinner, go to the Uptown Piano Bar for drinks. Intimate setting where you can actually have a conversation without shouting.

SEGUIN GOOD PLACES:

** None

Grist Mill ribs are among the best I have ever had...atmosphere is excellent.

You need to get out more. The atmosphere at the Grist Mill is great, but the food is just ok. Everyone acts like it is the greatest restaurant of all time when it is really pretty average. Not saying that I wouldn't take a Gristburger with fries right now, but that there are much better places to go.

While I agree that the food at the Grist Mill wasn't spectacular, he's not saying that he was a restraunteur or some critic for a local magazine; I think the atmosphere could be what you are looking for the most. Try to get one of the upstairs tables as it is nice and quiet and you can talk and get to know her more. Then, if you've made a good connection, take her next door to Gruene Hall for some dancing.

If you both like Texas Country check out the River Road Ice House. Tons of bands play there. I saw Randy Rogers there before he sucked and sold out... /ducks

and as ffco said Gristmills ribs are pretty incredible. The other stuff there is pretty good but the ribs are where it's at. The only problem is that they don't make them there they buy them from somewhere else so they do run out of them upon occassion.

Luke as far as there being nothing good in Seguin you are wrong. There are plenty of good little hole in the wall mexican food places.

No doubt some great hole in the wall places in Sequin. I was just thinking of places to take a date.

I like the place at the corner of Guadalupe and Nolte ( I can't remember the name). Las Mananitas out on HWY 90 across from Lake Placid Estates is pretty good. I also like Pica Taco out in McQueeney.

I hate the place on Guadalupe by the post office. Havent tried breakfast there. Mananitas I havent tried yet becuase they seem to always be closed when I want to go. Sorry to hijack the thread. Carry on.

Anyone been to the MooJesus Gospel Cafe in Seguin?
James Walker `02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The place on Guadalupe is usually dust a taco stop for me. Mananitas is only open for breakfast and lunch. There's also another place on 123 bypass behind the Tetco where Belaggios used to be. I think it is called Atotonilco or something like that I really like the food there as well. On Mondays the lunch special with the little Taquitos (not the fried ones the little tacos) with onion and cilantro are quite tasty. You can get the Taquitos any time it's just a la carte.

In between Seguin and NB are Clear Springs (on the left) and Oma's (on the right). Those are both good. Oma's food was my wife's choice for special occasions when we lived in Seguin.

Uptown piano bar is good, as well as Gruene River Grill. While there are a few items at the Gristmill that are good (ribs, guadalupe chopped steak) most are very mediocre, imo.

no one has mentioned The Tavern on the Gruene, which has cold longnecks, pool, and shuffleboard.

Take her to Dirty's BBQ between Clear Springs and Seguin. It's Aggie owned by the Dausin Brothers and damn good!
