Looking for a framer or handyman to add some additional studs for my garage wall. My studs are currently spaced at 2' and am looking to add a few in select spots to strengthen the wall around a pedestrian door and where I have a spanning beam installed for an attic access door.

This is a finished garage so would require drywall removal to install which is one more step than I have time do to myself.

Appreciate any recommendations. Located on the west side of Houston near city centre.

with long screws deep into studs
to provide whatever strength you need ... which so far is mysterious.

2x4s - even at 24"oc - do a lot of vertical work if straight and work as a team blocked/sheathing/etc.

racking strength (side-side) is vastly improved, even thru gyp.bd ... perhaps the issue near doorway?

If your house was built after 2000 I would imagine it would have 1/2 in osb the 2x4 will not bow it has the strength with the plywood

Garage was built in 1965. Has hardiplank siding. About 5 years ago a contractor added a 5" Powerbeam across the span to install an attic door for me to be able to use the attic access for storage.

Noticing cracking drywall cracking around the garage door and close to where the powerbeam is on one side. Figure it wouldn't hurt to double up studs below the power beam and around the door framing.

That could be many things and a stud wall probably would not fix that

It could be just a joist that has lost its stremgth over 60 years and just need to put another beside it but that sounds easier that it really is
