Doing a (mostly) exterior renovation in East Dallas.

The scope is demo existing front porch, infill two exterior doors, replace soffit and fascia, new front door, replacing siding at gables, some landscaping/hardscaping, painting entire exterior, staining the front porch deck, installing new gutters and downspouts, doing some landscape and front porch lighting, and installing new gutters and downspouts.

Didn't have much time to post throughout construction but we are getting close to being finished. Poured concrete for the walkways today.

This is my house. Happy to answer questions on the project. Most specific questions will probably be handled better by the OP (or my wife but she's not on TexAgs).


We reused whatever was already there. It was real wood of some kind. Not especially pretty but still in good shape (probably since it had been covered and inside that screened in porch). Couldn't say how old it is.

They used SW SuperDeck on it to give it some protection and make it look better.

curious why you changed the location of the front door? i think i'd want to be able to see down the walkway out the door from inside.

There were two front doors. The one that you could see from the sidewalk led into a bedroom.

Apparently this was common 100 years ago because people would often rent out an extra room.

We definitely wish the front door was visible from the street. When we get the new front door on it's going to be a pop of color.

Helps on the inside, too. Nice to have that wall space. I also think it helps the A/C.

We also got rid of an extra stupid door in our master bedroom.

We love the quirk and charm of the old house but won't miss these.
