I have a 2600 sq ft home built in 2012. I don't think I have enough roof ventilation. Do I need to consult a roofing company or hvac company to check it out? Thanks

Do you have ridge vents? If so, you probably don't have (or not enough) soffit vents.... or they are clogged with insulation.

I would think you'd have to get a handy man to fix the the soffit vents, ridge would be a roofer. I doubt an A/C guy would be very helpful.

Ideal if have their own metal shop nearby to form valleys, ridge vents, etc.


Tell them problem and probably need ridge & soffit vents, come see, calculate, measure RH%, cost-estimate w/ETA complete.
Avoid solar power vents and whirlybirds unless you have a bad roof design so poor it doesn't have enough ridge lengths.

While in the attic, ask for a look-see of any suspect ductwork leaking or disconnected a bit. If so, then onto a 5-star HVAC guy search and hopefully a BTH (by-the-hour) solution if you don't already have an annual tune-up membership = ideal for such as this.

If roofer solutions not it, then HVAC searching for leaks & freon/et al. needs, etc.

What's wrong with solar power vents and whirlybirds?

They not always, but very often, are inadequate volume of ventilation compared to ridge vents. Powered vents also have the ability to pull air from the conditioned space, which is really inefficient.

I have ridge vents on lower roof surfaces over a bedroom and garage and electric exhaust fan on high roof.
