I'm looking to buy a 8 foot outdoor pool table that comes with a heavy duty cover and may be able to convert to a dining set. Most of what I read online the surface warps in a few months, is this pretty much the story on outdoor pool tables?

I just don't want to spend a pile of money and basically throw it away on something that won't hold up. Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Get the kind they had on The Drew Carey Show.
Except that it would look like cr*p after a few weeks outdoor.

For what its worth, its a gift for my wife. Her dad was a borderline professional pool player before he passed. She is pretty good at pool also.

Outdoor rigs may not be ideal for pros/semi-pros, even though honeycomb vs solid slabs try to accomodate both in various venues. Such might be OK for kids or drinking games.

Think of it as a grand piano, subject to direct daylight, humidity and even moving it a bit ... in the case of pool, all that leveling goes down the drain.

The table top for holiday feats adds more perils with spills that can leak below to the very expense felt and primo bumpers.

After all this rain on your parade, something positive offered is deserved.
Several bumper pool tables w/dining toppers will serve this quest if tented well.
Heavy duty build DIY table tennis can serve better or some store-bought fold up, wheel into garage.
Once I saw a barroom Oak Shuffleboard Table with Buffet Top that oddly served pretty good that might not warp too badly

I truly enjoyed your post. I agree with you, I needed to face the facts and you delivered them in the most entertaining way.

I can't sacrifice the interior space, and really don't have the room size needed.

I will look into other options. Thank you for your time.

Some of those outdoor pool tables are north of 20k. I just don't understand it if it doesn't last.

Garage space?

You could insulate and AC a garage space for less than the price you mentioned of the outside tables.

I do have garage space, that could work. It would be a monumental task in clearing it out. I'd probably have to build a shed for my tools and stuff. But that is an option.

I went to a Billiards store yesterday, and picked their brain about the outdoor pool tables.

they had one for sale, it was powder coated aluminum frame, with slate top, and a sunbrella surface.

The slate is the same as the interior pool tables. the saleseman said the bumpers are "essentially the same" as the interior pool tables. I think because they may vary some per manufacturer.

But the only real difference is the sunbrella surface, not felt.

It can also be topped with a slate table top, and they can also make or sell a cover for it.

He said the ball ran a little faster than the felt on the sunbrella.

Overall, I was kind of impressed with it, and was difficult to leave without buying it. But I made it out the door.
