I don't own a set(yet) but I'd go Speed Queen.

Speed Queen without a doubt. You will thank me later. They are built to last a lifetime.

LG washers and dryers actually have a better repair rate than Speed Queen does.

Been super happy with my Electrolux set we've had over 8 years.

Stain remover setting is nails and quick wash actually quick washes when we need to go that route.

Only repair ever done was removing excess lent from dryer fan and replace door seal of washer both of which I did myself.

I bought a speed queen because it was supposed to last a lifetime and I got 8 years. The control panel went out and it was going to be $1100 to fix it . I did not replace with another speed queen. Didn't have great experience with mine. Really disappointed.

Yale Appliance out of Boston collects and publishes data on appliance reliability. Here's their data on top load washer reliability:

Top-Load Washer Reliability for 2025
The following service rates are based on a minimum of 50 products sold and a total sample of over 700 products within 12 months.

Service Rates

LG 3.2%
Speed Queen 3.6%
GE 7.0%
GE Profile 8.5%

Most Reliable Top and Front Load Washers for 2025

They also have data on virtually all other appliances.

I've had great luck with our LG top-load. Going on 14 years now and I can't think of a part that I've had to replace. And our units run practically full time with 7 of us.

Maybe a bunch of us just switch between LG and Speed Queen. I tried LG three times before I got Speed Queen.

My favorite set was Fisher-Paykel circa 2005-06. That top load gas dryer was on point.

We enjoy our LG front loaders. Only have had them 3 years, but no issues with them.

Replaced our 14 year old LGs last year with newer LGs. The old still worked but there were clear signs we'd have a disaster soon.

The new ones are cheap hot sh*t compared to the older. Feature wise nearly identical. Only nice thing is the attachment to the water line in the dryer so no refilling the tank. Wife uses the app for notifications.

Not worth it. Complete crap builds now. Doors sound like a tin can, dryer sensors dont work as well to know when things are done so towells, bulky clothes, etc always need an extra 20 minutes. We had our vents cleaned around the same time, so they arent the issue. Govt efficiency my ass.

Top load wash (no center agitator) and traditional front load dryer.

Edit: to actually be helpful, Consumer Reports lists LGs as the top choices in basically every category.

I bought a washer and dryer at a garage sale back in 2000ish. Somebody put a bunch of concrete in the bottom of the washer, not in the washtub, but by the footies to keep it from walking around with an uneven load. That SOB ran for me until the day I gave it away. Probably 12 years. It was old when I bought it. Bought the pair for $100. Not gonna get that anymore.

Speed Queen, with an old school agitator, 9 years no issues and clothes are actually clean

Honestly I don't think I'd spend a ton on them. All the stuff these days is going to break after 7-8 years. Just toss it and get a new one. They are just not made like they were 40-50 years ago.

Ours has been fine so disagree with this broad generalization.

I'm also fully on the SQ train… having gone through both of the Korean options and a maytag in less than 5 years. I asked the last service guy to visit my home what he would get and he said 100% SQ. Not a single issue since they were purchased.

Somehow I have 14 years out of a set of Kenmore front loads. Really would like for them to die but when something goes wrong it ends up being a $30 part. My aunt has been running a set of speed queens (dials not a digital board) for over 20 years.

It developed a small leak after 8 years, but a $50 wear item part you can install yourself isn't a reason to broadly make claims to avoid a front loading washer...

Front loaders and prone to problems with mildew and mold no matter how meticulous you are about cleaning and drying the gasket.

Honestly have not had mold or mildew on the Electrolux we have. We leave the door open and that's worked.

I have a 20+ year old set of the original Whirlpool Duets. We have had very minor problems that my husband has been able to fix with cheap parts.

As to the smell/gasket, we just keep the door open when not in use. We clean the gasket occasionally but have not needed to replace it yet.

We are hoping for another 20 years.

I've got a set of Kenmore Elite front loaders built circa 2008 that I got from my parents. They've been fantastic. I've had to replace the heating element and the belt on the dryer but the washer (fingers crossed) hasn't had any problems. We leave the door open maybe 20% of the time that we could leave it open and we've never had an issue with mold/mildew. I honestly didn't know that was a problem until reading posts on TexAgs.

Kenmore used to primarily use Whirlpool to manufacture their products, so maybe Whirlpool is a good brand? Maybe, but that's a lot of assumptions.

Am SO old have done them all Except Speed Queen sold in neighboring Navasota.
So for now, NOT switching from LG (knock on wood) and EZ to get w/install, disposing old all at great rates.

Also, WTAW radio news carried a story citing top brands via survey ... LG was on this short list as #58.
https://today.yougov.com/ratings/consumer/popularity/brands/all
... as was Speed Queen #1722 and even Samsung (assuming cell phones NOT appliances! hahaha)
A popularity contest, that can even be filtered by generation ....
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable
