Garage Door Issue

We got a new garage door opener recently and have been having an issue where, instead of pulling it up and then rolling back, it wants to pull the door straight back. It just bends the top of the door inward and then stops. If I go push on it a little and try again it will go up most of the time, but that's obviously less than desirable. It closes without issue so I'm not sure where the problem is.

Do you have the arm that attaches to your door installed correctly? Has to be installed in this configuration or it will not pull correctly.

We had it installed by a Home Depot contractor. I think I've narrowed it down to something going on with the right track. I don't know if something's bent or out of line or what.

Sounds like the garage door opener is struggling. I would first check to see if there is anything causing binding when the door is moving. That is, make sure the garage door tracks are parallel and plumb, the rollers are not cockeyed, etc. With the opener's trolley disengaged, you should be able to open the door with one hand without much effort. If everything appears to be in alignment and there's no binding, but the door is still requires more than a little force to open, then the door spring might need to be tightened.

Disconnect the door from the opener by pulling the cord.
Lift the door manually and check that it isn't binding and that the spring is doing it's job.
