Adding Portico to Front of House

This is the front of my house:

There is no overhang above the front door, and when it rains we have nowhere to be sheltered from the rain and look outside or have packages be covered from the elements. My wife sees this as an enormous problem, and I'm open to the idea of adding an overhang - but I have no idea where to begin. Do I need a general contractor? Just a roofer?

Has anyone experienced doing this kind of addition to their house and can share some tips? Is this stupid and we should abandon the idea?

Thanks in advance

Fast/EZ genesis would be to rate popularity of ideas out there
or
contact Residential-only licensed Architect that can present these to you
that are limited to building setbacks & other restrictions
with aesthetic curb appeal opinions
then general costs.

Assuming no invasion of front setbacks, an independant, segregated covered pergola that overlaps roof/gutters would do the job and might be classified as a landscape feature, free of many codes/restrictions. Many biz doing this these days, pole-framed and covered with metal to Lexan.

Rich? Copper awning attached and flashed may generate other ideas storefronts employ.
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

They have package receptacles that will be much cheaper and easier to solve what I assume is the bigger problem.
