How easy are they to install?
Had a hvac guy come quote me 6100 - I can buy the unit alone for around 1000. I know I will have to pour a small pad and get electricity to it.
Curious if a semi handy guy like myself can do it. TIA

I've done four of them. Super easy. There are a bunch of YouTube videos for DIY installs.

One important thing to add - There are two types of mini split kits: DIY and standard. The DIY kits come with pre-charged lines that will probably be longer than you need, but they are literally plug & play. The standard kits you can install the compressor and head units yourself, but you will need an HVAC tech to connect the lines and charge the system.

Make sure you buy the right one.

Almost all split systems come precharged and only the lines and evaporator are open. Cheap gauge set and borrow a vacuum pump from O'Reilly's and no hvac tech needed. Allows you to customize like set if desired and usually significantly cheaper.
Also have all the pro tools and been thinking starting a rental service.

If you've got the tools to do it, save yourself the bucks.

ETA, wanna come customize a line set for me? I'm thinking about getting a mini split for my bedroom.

No need to pour a pad. Pre made condensing unit pads are readily available.

No problem. Do you have a minisplit already or have yet to buy it?

Mine is 4 years old and going strong in the garage. Installed it myself. I could see how there could be flaws in the precharged lineset fittings that could leak.
