Decided to go the "Above Ground Pool" route for making the wife a bit happier and save myself the trouble of dealing with the constant filling/killing of the blow up pools.... Was able to snag a "Bestway Power Steel Oval Shaped Pool" from Walmart this weekend...

My question is - does anyone on Texags have any quality sources or references for care? I've read this thread (link: https://texags.com/forums/61/topics/2961911)

• I've bought a 1500 gallon sand filter (need to get the sand for filtering...)
• I also bought a skimmer to help clean larger items of debris
• Bought a 6-piece chem testing kit

My questions are so far:

• Should I use liquid chlorine or the tablets?
• Is "CYA" a bigger concern in AGPs?
• Do I try to keep it filled year-round but "winterize" it?
• or is it better to take it down for the winter?

I have 0 experiences with pool's as I've only swimmed in them, but I did help my Grandpa when I was 5 fill one in over the weekend when Grandma went out of town for a week. He took the full blame for that one and enjoyed the heck out of watching me get the last swim in it though....

Should I use liquid chlorine or the tablets?-liquid, dilute in water before adding. Add every few days. Tabs if going out of town for more than 2-3 days.

or is it better to take it down for the winter? -drain and store usually the best option to extend life of pool and lowest cost. I don't know what model you bought though. Comments above are based on vinyl lined.
