I'm fairly confident my pool pump is leaking on the motor or the seal plate. I'm having someone come look at it to confirm.

If it needs to be replaced, have any of you bought a lower cost one on Amazon? I see some variable speed pumps for less than $300 and I'm tempted to buy one and plan on replacing it every few years. I have a small pool so don't need a big one.

I bought the POLARIS PB4-60 OEM Booster Pump 3/4 HP off amazon after my booster pump failed (froze) during the Feb 2021 freeze. It was ~$350 at the time, and very simple to install myself.

One thing to note about the Amazon pumps, specifically Black & Decker and their associated knockoffs, is that I've seen their shafts seize and fail pretty consistently after 3-4 years. I've seen one that caught fire and destroyed a garage. I've never seen similar failure on a big 3 pump, not saying it doesn't happen, but they are certainly duty rated appropriately, vs some of the cheaper stuff. The PB pumps are for positive pressure vacuum booster applications and generally shouldn't be used as filter pumps. Volute seals and shaft seals are easy to replace and don't necessitate a full swap. Remember all new filter pumps must be VFD per the law passed last year. Of course if you DIY there is no enforcement arm.

Plus if you pay the extra for professional installation of a new variable speed pump you can get a 3 year parts & labor warranty from the big 3 (Jandy, Pentair, Hayward).

But you should be easily able to split the motor from the volute and replace the shaft seal and all the gaskets if the volute is not cracked.

Quick update - pool guy never showed. In looking at my brand and model (Century Centurion) it appears my line is no longer being made. Is there an easy way to find compatible parts or should I go ahead a replace?

I'm losing water each day but feel like I need to keep it running to hold back the algae.

I took mine into Pinch A Penny Pools and they replaced the motor while I waited. It sure saved a lot of time figuring out what replacement would be compatible.
