My wife and I just moved into a house in Plano that was built in the 70's and has a soil line which sits at or above the foundation in some places. We knew that we would eventually need to add underground/french drains and modify the grading a bit at the sides to better channel water away, but our timeline has been moved up due to having water enter into our laundry room and garage during the large rains yesterday. With that being said, does anyone have recommendations for contractors/companies for doing this type of work? Obviously due to the scope, I want to get several quotes.

We used Weaver and Associates about 6 years ago shortly after we purchased our home after it nearly flooded due to "French drains" from the previous owner that didn't work as we came to find out. These guys weren't cheap but nothing drainage is unless you find a lawn guy who probably won't fix your problem. I am more than satisfied with the drain system they designed and installed. We now have a full PVC 6" drain system with supplemental channels drains as backups and there hasn't been a rain yet that it hasn't been able to handle with ease we've had some bad ones. Goodluck!

In addition to French Drains, I'd take a look at:

Gutters. Carefully selecting downspout locations can aid you in getting water away from trouble spots.
Then extend the gutters out via piping underground to a spot that has positive flow away from the house.

Berms/Swales. A berm/swale system can direct water away from the house before it gets to the foundation.
Use this in combination with a French Drain for added impact.

Golden Rule: It is always preferable to drain above ground than through pipes.
