In order to save the $300 house call plus parts that pool companies charge to replace a pool light, I decided to take this task on myself. I bought a new gasket and light. For the life of me, I could not get the gasket to seal properly. Every time I put the new gasket on and put the fixture under water, I would see bubbles start to come up. Luckily the light fixture and bulb are still working. Did I just get a bad gasket?

Maybe. Could also be the area between the glass lens and the front frame that's leaking. Gasket won't help that. See if you can see where it's leaking from.

Also, make sure to tighten each screw a little at a time as you go around. gasket can get a little deformed if you tighten them sequentially instead of a little at a time.

Maybe tighten them in a star pattern rather than going in a circle.

You might check and see if you need to line the contact area between gasket and housing with silicone grease/lubricant as you would when you reseat the valve cover after replacing a rubber gasket seal.

This in a star pattern did the trick the 1st time. Rookie mistake.

What blue and gasket combo did you get?
