Considering doing a concrete overlay on a tiled front porch. Would appreciate any insight into someones experience with an overlay. Tile will be removed prior and hopefully properly prepped prior to overlay. Wanting a wood look type overlay. I looked at wood porcelain tiles but was not impressed. Thanks

This question ideally suited for "The Money Pit" radio show that also has access via the internet.

As long as the porch is structurally sound, an overlay is a feasible option. Just make sure not too much damage is done, to the concrete substrate, while removing tile.

DIY or using a contractor? I know of a good overlay contractor in DFW, http://artcretetx.com/

They use different mixtures of grout and epoxy/polys to minimize cracking with the thinness of the overlays. Their operation is similar to pool deck overlays. They prep the hell out of the existing surface by grinding and crack sealing. I don't know how large your area is, but they may at least come quote it and give you more insight.

Im in the Bellville/Sealy area. Thanks for the info. but that contractor will not come to my location for a small job. Looking to find out all I can and make a good decision. Thanks again.
