There was a recent thread on this year. I think a few people were happy with a company called jellyfish.

We used Astoria lighting. It was an easy process. Took about 4-6 weeks for them to get to us, but they installed them in 1 day. App is cool and easy to use.

Trimlight was quite a bit cheaper than Jellyfish

Have had Jellyfish little over year and absolutely love them. No issues so far and lots of compliments from people driving by and neighbors. They were awesome all around from sales guy to installers.

We just put in Govee lights. We're very happy with them so far.

Did you install them yourself? If so, how was it?

Another govee user. I'm about 70% finished with my install. Have a section of my second floor that's tricky to reach.

Pretty easy to install and splice. I used 3/20 awg wire for splicing. The adhesive is pretty good but I'm going to go back and add screw in clips.

We have jellyfish and are very happy with them. Know a few folks that had them before us. A bit pricy but worth it for us.

Pretty easy. Most of the adhesive pads are holding strong, but we used clips to reinforce them.

I just bought these brackets for my govee lights. I imagine the adhesive will eventually give out.

For those of you with multiple peaks, how do you connect the lights? Just splice and run the chord on the roof?

Just slice and make sure the three wires to the same three. I used 20 gauge wire. I read on reddit about people having issue on longer runs using 22.

Not sure I'm following. So this is my roofline. As you see, I have several different runs, not one long run. How would I connect all these together. Would I just have to run a 20 gauge wire on the roof, hiding it as best as possible? That's how I do it with these Christmas lights, but not as big of a deal when it's just a couple months, not permanent IMO.

You'd have gaps of lights with 20 gauge wire connecting the lights.

Here's a video that talks through the splicing.

My understanding is the string has to be one continuous strand so you can't splice and go in three directions. So with my roofline, I'll have one area where I have to loop back with wire to connect to another peak. Another thing to keep in mind is I think the Govee lights are limited to 150' max distance, I think this includes the spliced distance.

I just got a quote from a company that installs the Govee outdoor lights. I'm leaning towards going with the bid on the front and one side of my house as we are on a corner lot and the sides have some very high peaks.

It is expensive, but basically about what I was guessing it would cost. The company uses a proprietary app to control the lights. I am thinking I can install lights on the other two sides of my house as they are mostly pretty low to the ground. I am guessing I would just then have to control them with the standard app.

I am guessing this should be OK. As long as I'm not doing anything too complex as far as movement patterns, go anything I am not thinking of?

How much do they charge per LF? Would you run into issues with the app if Govee updates its app? The Govee app is pretty easy to use.

I'd also ask what they are going to use to secure the lights. If I'm paying someone to do it, I'd hope they use something more than just the tape on the back of the lights.

Get multiple quotes: The quote I got from Oelo was twice the cost of what I got from Trimlight.

Also, none of these companies "just tape the lights up". They are run through channels which are screwed in to the fascia.

Govee lights don't use or come with channels that some of the other permanent lights have.

I need to look at the quote closer when I'm home. I'm not sure if it breaks it down by LF, but if it doesn't I'll text the sales guy and ask.

Not sure about the app update question.

According to him the company has been around for several years and they offer a lifetime warranty on parts and labor. I asked him for some addresses of prior jobs and I'm gonna try to talk to as many of those home owners as possible.

They use an aluminum track/channel screwed into the underside of the overhang.

This was trimlight. I think I probably looked them up after seeing one of your posts.

Hot take.

Permanent Christmas lights look cheap compared to typical recessed soffit lights and will be a pain to deal with long term when compared to traditional recessed lights or proper landscape lighting.

We have a house in King Oaks that looks like a carnival 12 months a year. Super tacky. I feel sorry for the people living next to them.

Any updates from the Govee users?

Wife has started pushing me towards permanent lighting. Reviews look decent enough

They remind me of giant taquerias or bars. Get some permanent Christmas lights, tack up a food rating of B- and you can serve enchiladas and tacos.

The other one are the permanent security lighting built into soffits. Houses look like airports. I don't know why everyone is afraid of the dark now. Lol.

I picked up a 150ft Govee pro kit for cheap during prime day for cheap. I installed it few weeks ago and very impressed with it for the money. Was relatively easy to install. I tried the 3m tape that came with it but didn't stick that well in few spots. I bought some 3d printed brackets off of Etsy and screwed them in and haven't had a problem since.
